I'll echo a lot of the other guys-a 6-6 or 7" MH action. If you don't want to spend a lot of $ and have an Academy anywhere close theck out the AllStar Classic WR1. They run about $50 when not on sale, and it is a good rod for the price. Been using them for years with no complaints.

I like a 7' mh for worm fishing. But as you can see it varys from one guy to the next. You may have to use several different actions and lengths till you find the one that works best for you.

I definitely think there is a point of "diminishing returns" when it comes to rods. I have tried rods in all the different price categories, and 1 rod I would definitely suggest for your worming, if you're looking in this price range, is a 683c or 703c Dobyns Champion series rod...depending on whether you would prefer a 6'8" or 7'0" rod...both are MH power x-fast rods. These rods are very affordable and are as sensitive as rods that are priced much, much higher. The x-fast action on these rods loads up very quickly and easily for pitching baits in and around cover and the rods are very, very balanced.

Let us know what you decide, I think you'd be very happy with the Dobyns though...

Hi Justin. I just got my 682c Dobyns from D.R. and put the Conquest 50S on it. Caught a few last Saturday and I must say, I'm very impressed with the rod. I never did get to use it for it's primary application (light jigs, shakey heads, little plastics) but it handled the little cranks (1/4oz Rat-L-Traps, etc...) very well. I could definitly feel the b8s action (that's my acid test for sensitivity BTW) even down to a 1/8oz Trap. It didn't really load up at 1/8oz but that's well below the rod's ratings. First class build quality...gr8 price...sweeeeeet!

What I read spring is the best time for learning jig fishing they are feeding on craws. Now you might want to swim a white jig they are feeding on shad.Jig is a all year lure. Find a rod local so you can take your reel and put it on for the feel.

I like a shorter rod 6'0" Heavy. Every now and then I'll throw a 6'6" Heavy.
