Some of you will probably laugh at this, but I fish from a float tube and was trolling a small resevoir that I know holds crappie. There is a deep channel that runs throughout the lake, and the rest is pretty shallow. I was kicking up and down the channel but I wasn't sure how deep my jigs were holding at. Any advice on how to know what depth you are trolling? I'm assuming that the crappie will be holding in these deeper channels, especially as the water gets cooler. Thanks!

Use a marker to highlight your line every 5' to 10'

Good-luck

Hey Robert when I slow troll this is the procedure I use.
I troll with 12 ft poles and when my poles are in my Bee-Ready rod holders the tips of my rods are 1 foot above the water. I have all my rods marked with a piece of tape at the 1 foot and 2 foot intervals from my reel. If I want to fish 12feet down I will place my hook at the but of my rod with is 12 feet long then make a 1 foot pull from there to place in my rod holder I know I am exactly 12 feet down. Pretty long explanation but hope it helps.
