Don't have a deer lease so we want to go on a trip this weekend and catch some red's....I've only fished red's in Venice, LA on a Jobsite, now its in my blood! Never fished reds in TX so Can someone hold my hand and tell me where to go this weekend? I'm from Dallas,TX....My father always went SURF fishing reds this time of year...he said they running, is that true or was that to much Lone Star beer talking?
Any help is appreciated, I'm pretty green at red fishing but love to eat them, some "coon asses" in LA showed me how to cook, great!
Thanks everyone.. Jeremy Elliott

They are in the surf this time of the year, yes.
I would go to High Island first or if you want an area a little more accesible then I would head to San Luis Pass.
As far as gear and such I am not going to repeat myself for the 1000's time, do a search and you will find plenty suggestions.
High Island, SLP, and Baffin Bay are hot right now, however Baffin Bay is pretty dang far from Dallas.

If you have a boat then some of the above mentioned spots should be good. I would try out some live mulletlip hooked in the surf if you head there. Maybe even some croaker if you can get them.

We wore them out in the channel side of the jetties at Port A about 3 wks ago--caught maybe 30 or so reds 36-44 inches. First time for me to do that--alot of fun and a good workout.
