will i be ok on this. i have all baicasters for bass so the shimano curados, chronarch mg, etc. i will be wading so what if the reel gets submerged in saltwater once or twice? can i just hose them off and be good as new??

i've used my Curado 300dsv every trip to Port A no problem--I dont know which Curado you have but the 300 is made to be a hybrid reel.

Application wise, the Curado 200DHSV can handle multiple species without a problem from freshwater to inshore saltwater fish We battled largemouth bass, blacks, and spotted with all types of lures from crankbaits to plastics, and also ripped for striped bass with hard minnow baits. If our rockcod season was open we would have loved to fish for them with the Curado 200DHSV to give it an even more thorough testing, but unfortunately we didn't have that opportunity. An overall great reel with plenty of power to play tug-o-war with many different species, and is worth the cost of ownership.

even though it's coated for saltwater use, I wouldn't put use my 51 Mg in saltwater...

the curados should be fine as long as you rinse them

The Curados's with the "S" in the model number are the one's with the sealed bearings and solid spool that are O.K for salt water. If your Curado has a perforated spool, water can get into the internals of the reel and unless you do a complete teardown, thoroughly rinse and re-lube, the salt can (probably will) damage the reel.

Go buy yourself the older Green Curado for use in saltwater applications.

They can be found on Ebay for 50-80 bucks depending on condition, they are by far the best choice for over all salt resistance.

Add new spool bearings and drag washers and you got yourself one hell of a saltwater setup.

I use old curado and new ones. All I fish is saltwater never had any problems at all out of them.. I rinse with freshwater when I get home and do normal maintance to them thats it.. They have all reeled in sharks, big reds, and any other saltwater fish that is in the bay...

I own a Chronarch Mg50 and I wouldn't use mine in saltwater, especially if I was wading. They can handle the saltwater if you clean them really well afterwards, I just prefer not to expose my freshwater gear to the salt...since I do 99% freshwater fishing. But if I were going to get some better gear for saltwater, I'd definitely go for some Curados or Chronarchs(aluminum ones)..

Dont use the 50MG in salt. I do have curados that I bought 10 plus years ago for strictly saltwater use. I use them now for 98% freshwater fishing. I have never changed out the bearings, just clean and lube them on a regular basis and they still work like the day bought them.

Don't spray them down with water, that just pushes the salt deeper into the gears. I soak mine in warm soapy water and dry and lube. It is amzing the amount of junk that comes out of your reels.

I have a couple of Abu 5600 Black Max reels that I use for salt water. They hold alot more line than a Chronarch (double, or more), and they clean up very easily. I immerse them in warm water for a few minutes, then clean, dry and lube them when I am done and they still work well after almost 20 years. I can cast a heavy lure as far or farther then any of my friends. They can be had pretty cheap on ebay.

I'd go to ebay and buy one of the Shimano Speedmasters. Japanese made and I believe will handle salt water. Weighs 9.8 oz. and holds alot more line. Japanese made ones are alot lighter.
