 Headed to Corpus/Port A tonight! Surf advice?

The wife and I are headed down to Corpus tonight from San Antonio. Hopefully, she'll let me hit Bob Hall Pier after we get settled into the hotel. Does anyone know how the food is at the pier?
The more pressing issue is, how, and with what, are ya'll catching fish in the surf? We'll be spending the day tomorrow on the beach...probably not far from the pier. (if you see a black expedition, stop by and say hi)
What cut? What bait? Weighted or freeline? Etc....
Any advice would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!

Didn't fish the surf much last weekend. Went out with a guide and got 6 reds (2 over) and 1 flounder. Hit the jetty Sat night but the waves were too much.
Did ask around and most were catching using live mullet on the surf side of the jetty.

Not sure but i'd check out the packery channel jetties if i were you...

Jetty Surf...cut or live mullet carolina rigged with 2 to 3 ounces of weight...murdered the reds in PA a week and a half ago

Just got back...didn't do so hot...two whitings in the surf, 10 pin fish on the jetties. Was obviously using the wrong bait...will do my homework better next time!!!
