Ok, I have had a 150 dollar gift card to cabelas for too long, its about to burn through my pocket. Im going to the store in ft worth this weekend with the intentions to buy a new reel. Im also going to be purchasing a new swimbait capable rod but that will have to come out of the other pocket.
Im looking at only a few reels and was wondering which one you would buy and why. I already own a couple cheap casting reels that i do not like and use primarily my calcutta 200 gte. I love it but am going to use it more for heavy baits and coastal fishing. Im wanting a go to all around bass catching casting reel.
I have looked at many reviews and comments on here and have tried to narrow it down to the shimano citica, revo sx, and daiwa advantage. If you think there is another one that can outperform these in the same price range let me know, but any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. I had been leaning to the citica for since im familiar with shimano but from what people are saying the revo might really be worth the little bit of extra cash, thanks again in advance for any and all help

The Citica is the best $120 reel on the market IMHO. It's basically the same reel as the old green Curado's. The new Curado's are $80 more and all you're getting for that $80 is one more bearing and 5# more drag at the top end.

I really had the citica in mind and thought it was where i wanted to go, but there has been a lot of talk on the new revo and went and played with one a little bit and liked it quite a bit. I can be easily persuaded that if i spend a little more im getting a lot more reel, thats why im asking for help from guys like you, thanks, i guess thats one vote for the citica, i do love shimano

If I wasn't such a Shimano die hard the Revo might be on my short list as well. The only kick I've heard on them is that they are sometimes a bit cranky to get set-up initially without alot of backlashes.

everyone and their dog is a shimano die hard and they do make great reels. I like quantum, particularly the PT series. Best reels you can buy in my opinion.

Go pick each one up and put it on the rod you are going to buy. Get a feel of how the whole set up fits in your hand. I like the Revos because of their small frame. I feel like I have more control with them. They also have the best drag on the market. I also have some old curados and love them but with the new price increase I have switched to the revo.

I like it just as well or better that my "green" Curados too. I will be buying more Citicas in the future.

I have 2 Revo's and what Buddha said is true they do seem to be very sensitive to setup without getting backlashes. I also have a couple Citica's and much prefer them over the Revo.

For the weight difference between the 2 I would go with the Revo's (unless you are looking at the 100, it might be closer to the same weight?). I am slowly moving over to all Revo's...they are awesome reels.

I have two Revos and I love them. When my wife goes fishing with me, that is all she will fish with now. "Give me a Revo" she says. I went in to get a BPS Rick Clunn series reel, and ended up with the Revo. The only reason my next reel won't be a Revo is because I want a 5.3:1 reel, and these are 6 and 7 ratios.
Oh yeah, on the backlash thing, set it up like you normally would, then tighten the magnetic spool control back down about a quarte turn.
