I have a 2001 Yamaha 225 VX225TRZ. My questions are;
1) How easy is it to change the impeller?
2) I want to buy a repair manual, what is the best place to shop for these and which is the best manual?
Thank you very much for your help!

1) Not hard; get a manual
2) Buy the Yamaha from a dealer
glue the cup in with waterproof glue; dealer will have some

#1 if you have never changed the impeller in an outboard before, I'll give you 1.5hours. .75hours to read the book. #2. E-bay is the cheapest place to buy the book, 32-35 dollars from your local marina......

Thank you very much for your help! Not hard at all to change the impeller in that engine. should only take about 1 hour at the most to do. there are a few tricks of the trade that makes re-installing easier. (which a manual won't help).

If you are a mechanical idiot don't try it. It might take that 3.75 hrs. Seriously though, like most have said it should only take an hour or so ...and even less the next time ...at least on that engine, it's the same one I have. If doing it by yourself set the unit on a floor jack to help hold it as you raise it.

Good time to also drain the lower unit fluid and pull the prop to check for fishing line.
Leave the fluid out and prop off to save weight when you yank the lower unit off to change the water pump!
Wrap a piece of electrical tape or blue painters trim masking tape around the lower unit to visually remind you to refill the lower unit with oil.
Every little bit helps
