Any of you guys ever utilize the radar function on your Lowrance electronics? Do you have to have a special sensor or does it work through the GPS? I see that my X25 has the function and the page comes up but there is nothing happening. It says off I tried to use the menu to tunr it on but nothing still. I also have looked in the manual and there is no information that I can find there either.. Any info guys???

think you have to actually have the "radar" thingy to use. The globe deal that you see on most offshore boats.
I hear it's pretty cool, though. Shows rain in the area, etc. If there's a more compact way of having this, I'm all ears.

I would have to say you need a radar antenna also. I just updated the software in my 25C a few weeks ago and the radar option showed up - it wasn't there before the software update.

you will need the radar "dome" or antenna... those run in the $2K range. It seems Lowrance is trying to break into the saltwater world a little more, to compensate for the loss of revenue in the freshwater world. Humminbird must be puttin a hurtin on them.

You'd need a LRA-2000 Radome. Run you about $1,600.

Chad,
Other than the radar thing only thing I can tell for sure is that I have one more dim light setting when I hit the power button.

So do you think that the radar function is worth investing that kind of money into?

Correct me if I am wrong, but how would it work on freshwater lakes? I mean wouldn't the RADAR echo bounce off every tree, bank, cliff, etc, etc....be worthless.
In the open waters of the ocean I can see how it would work...plus it is like 3 feet across!!! Where are you going to put it, assuming you have a traditional bass boat.
A cool feature I have seen is that Sirrus (I think that is who does it) makes a intergration into some graphs to show real time radar loop onto your map...but 29.99 a month is pretty steep for just weather, google "sirus marine weather"

You have to have radar to issue a lock command for your jet flea missle guidance system. I'd say that is a sound investment and it will bring hours of entertainment!
