I've been just sitting around the house this evening waiting on Monday Night Football. While doing that Im thinking about the upcoming week-end and cant wait to get back on the water. As I look over the results of Saturdays Tournament I start to do some calculating. The average fish weight weighed in by our Texas Best was 1.07 per fish. And not to metion a horrible fishing conditions. Now that is a quality fish anyday of the week and I will take those all day long in my cooler. The reason for this post may not have any meaning to most but it does to me, as I look through the Crappie Magazines monthly and read about different ways and technigues, they always seem to be in another state. I have witnessed over the past 5 years of weighing in fish the average stringer weight has really increased and should be noted. If you fish in any event, whether it be a national status or a local event you gain knowledge and probably dont even realize it. I have had No national experience at all, due mostly from lack of money and time off. Inside, I love the challange and wish I could afford to make those trips, mostly for the learning experience. I just really wanted to express the significant changes and growing number of talented crappie anglers that Texas has to offer. I think some may comment on the fact that the competion from it be in my tournaments or other Texas Clubs it is very competitive and sometime more difficult to win in our own Texas waters than traveling out of state and fishing unknown waters. With that being said, I Think Texas Rocks The Crappie World in 2008

Texas Rocks The Crappie World in 2008 I'll second that! That's a sweet average and the winning weight wasn't too shabby neither Also, I think it's as tough to place in a BFC tourney as a national tourney. The BFC events are definitely worth the price of admission for the amount of information you obtain and the fish was good too

Cliff, I think your tournaments are great. You do a great job putting them on and getting people together for a good cause. Although my life as a full time guide doesnt allow me to fish any tournaments any more. If I were going to fish some, yours would be top on my list. Not because of the winnings but because of the competition level. I think we have the best crappie fisherman in Texas right here on the Forum. Maybe we even have the best in the nation, who knows. I wont mention any names because I would surely forget someone, but I would challenge our bunch against anyone across the nation. Keep up the good work! Hopefully once my kids grow up and move out I will be able to afford to not guide on some Saturdays and work in some tournaments like the ones you put on.

Texas has some great fishing and we are very lucky. Lewisville has some good fish. I think we averaged about 1.50# a fish and had another 13 in the livewell that were nearly as big. I'll take those on most any lake. Local tournaments are a challenge because people know their home lake and spend lots of time pre-fishing. We have some very good fisherman and I feel like most could compete on a national trail you just have to go and fish. Texas just doesn't support tournaments like other states and that is a shame. We have lots of good lakes we could showcase along with great anglers.

I've noticed how good some of our local crappie anglers are. My background just keeps nudging me to go fishing with one or more of those gurus and do a story with photos (Freelance) for Crappie World magazine. I wonder if people from West Virginia, for example, think the three or four crappie guys featured in CW Magazine are the only successful fishers around. Hmmmm Food for thought anyway.
