 Check Your Balls

For you guys who downrig - check the screw eyes on the top of your downrigger balls to make sure they're not coming loose.
Friday a friend and I were running down the lake in his boat when we heard a loud thump. The screw eye on one of his downrigger balls had pulled out. He'd had the ball hung on the hook under the downrigger arm for traveling and apparently the ball had taken one bounce off the transom and into the water. We checked the other ball and it's screw eye was getting loose too.

Especially if you're gonna subject them to a high level of vibrations.

I had a cable break the other day and the weight dropped. I think I'll re-terminate the other three downriggers.

Yeah...good idea. Can't be loosing your balls just becasue of a weak termination.
You had those fish shaped ones didn't you?
I guess it's just like retieing your lures after a big fish.
You can never be too careful.
