I am really disapointed in MapCreate 6, I use a Lowrance lms320 which has generic lake maps on it, And so does Mapcreate. I purchased it a few months back and every now and then I pick it up and try to find some use for it. I guess it would be alright if you wanted it for traveling. Any suggestions? Thank's

You can go to Lowrance's site and download the free lake maps there. They're usable if you have map create. Here's the link:

If Navionics covers the lakes you fish its well worth it. I have a the Fishing Hot Spots CD and the Mapcreate. They work well together because of the topographics on hotspots. I find humps and ridges and such onhot spots, write down the coords then create a waypoint in mapcreate. I then save to MMC and load them on my Eagle.

As far as the software goes thats about all I use it for.

Thank's jignpig, and HalDodd but the problem is I Mostly fish Lake Granger, Travis, Stillhouse, Belton, Buchanan, and none are listed. It seems that MapCreate seems to cater mostly to the Oklahoma lakes

Those free maps that are on the Lowrance site well work even if you do not have Mapcreate. Just copy them to a SD or MMC card and put it in the unit and they will be displayed. This works in my Fishelite 480 and Ifinder Pro, it also worked on an Ifinder I had.

yeah, 2 gray...there's the rub....nobody makes topos for every lake in the U.S. I suspect they'll all get made sooner or later with the popularity of GPS units, but it's gonna take time.

Hal,

That's interesting. So if I'm understanding correctly, it may not be as simple as with Garmin but you can still mark spots on your computer and then transfer to the MMC card. I'm glad you mentioned that. It's been my understanding that you could not do that with Lowrance products. Thanks!

BR,

You can do that, but you must have a card reader. Some Lowrances come with the reader, some do not.

Another excellent use for MapCreate managing your lake data. Ever wish you didn't have the pages and pages of waypoints and tracks to sort through? After each trip to a lake, simply upload all the date to your MMC, then upload that to your computer. Clean up and edit the info, and save to a file using the lake name. Then you can keep your GPS cleaned off except for the lake you are currently fishing. Each time you go to a lake, you simple open that lakes file in MapCreate, save it to the MMC, then install the MMC into your GPS. Have loads of information on your GPS already? No problem, you can still load it all into a file, then do a save as of that file, edit all of the information except for one lake, then save it again. To do the next lake, you simply bring up the original lake again and do the same, until you have saved a file for all of the lakes you fish. Management of data is a key item IMHO to truly enjoying your GPS.

Thats correct. I also use it to pick customers up at their dock versus meeting me at the ramp or cleaning facility. I get their address, look it up on expedia then find it on mapcreate and I'm there.

Jimmy, you can get a good deal on a standard reader/writer and memory cards at Frye's. Map Create will have to be bought through BPS or West or one of those types.....it'll set ya back around $100 for Map Create.

BPS has the best price for Mapcreate 6. If the version turns out to be 6.3, it will require a Lowrance reader/writer.
