I have caught plenty with and plenty without. I KNOW that when i stick them on my wifes pole she catches more fish. I think they may just hit harder when they have a nibble on them. I like them around docks and thats about it.

Just don't step them into the carpeting in your boat, cause there isn't enough water and scrub brushes available to get it out of the carpeting. And my jury is still out on their effectiveness. True. Harder than HE double hockey sticks to get out of the carpet but I don't jig fish without them.
Keep on fishing.

I used to use them all the time jig fishin but I hardly use them any more unless the bite is real slow. Why bother with the cost and time to put them on if you are catching fish already! Just my opinion. I think that they are way overpriced for me and they seem to go up in price every time I buy a new jar. I would guess about 3 0r 4 cents a piece.

I'm with Crappiemaster. If I run out, I load the boat and go buy some nibs. I have tested them in these ways. Often when I notice that the bite has stopped. I discover that my jig is empty and needs refilling. I inject nibs inside of tube jigs with a bait pump. Then the bite is on again. I have outfished another in my boat not using nibs many times and apx 5 fish to 1. I have outfished others in my boat that are using minnows at about the same rate. Therefore I am a big bleliever in crappie nibbles. Saturday afternoon I started fishing a small brushpile at about 4:30. Crappie nibs in chartruce jigs pulled 25 in the next 90 min. over half of them were over 12 inches in length and none under 11 inchs. 5 were over 15 inches. That's what I call success and it is not a fluke. I have done this often. IMHO, I could not have done that without nibs or with minnows. So...if you don't have crappie nibbles and a bait pump, you are fishing with a handicap. And that's ok with me.

If nibbles dont work on a slow day sometimes putting a booger on the jig will work! Just Keep in mind that you can pick yer fishing buddy and you can pick yer nose. But never can you pick your fishing buddy's nose. Back on topic I have only bought one jar of them. Don't know if it was old or what but all you had to do was look at them to make em fall off the jig.

They were to dry. If you put your jig in the water, pull it out and redunk it it seems to stay on better. They do need to be replaced every time you catch a fish because they do get knocked off.

I use them all the time. I don't believe they help the bite, but they do increase the hook up ratio. Another old guy who fishes the same pier I do used to give me a hard time about my "cheaters" after I out fish him several times in a row I noticed him sneaking a cheater on his jig. Last weds. evening I got 16 crappie 13 keepers. The 13 weighted 14 lbs. Fishing has been so slow that I was the only one on the pier. mike

I keep a baby food jar with half crappie nibble/half lake water mixed up in it in my tackle box. I have a big medicine syringe with a plunger that I use to suck up a few cc's of the mush and pump a bit into the back end of the hollow body jigs I like. it works great to get some motivation in them when they're biting lightly, 'specially if I'm in the wind and having trouble feeling the fish. Of course, most of the fish are still smarter than I am...

[quote=texozz61] Don't know if it was old or what but all you had to do was look at them to make em fall off the jig. Go here http://www.thebaitpump.com/ and see how to keep nibbles on the hook. I have caught up to 10 crappie on what was essentially one nibble because it was inside the jig body and not outside to get picked off by the first bream to come by.

This is what I have noticed when I do a fishing tank demo at Bass Pro Shops in Garland using Crappie Sparkles; the perch inhale them and then spit them back out.

I am a hard head type of guy. Never did like to use them much until I got my behind woooped several times while slow strolling for winter crappie. Same depth, same jig color combo...The one w/ nibbles on outcaught me 3 to 1 several outings. Yet I controlled the boat. Of course when they are biting good, you can catch them w/ a cigarette but t. It matters when the bite is hard to come by. Eventhough I still don't remember to have nibbles available at every outing, I am convinced that they do work...Even if it is slightly better than without it is still BETTER...

I've posted about this before, I use a oral syringe the type that you give kids medicine with and inject nibbles into a tube jig. The inside diameter of the syringe is large enough so the nibbles will squirt out without a problem. No need to water them down or anything. You can get the syringes at the grocery store or any medical supply for cheap. GoodLuck CrappieMaster
