Any feedback out there on the Dobyns Extreme rods? Would like to know what yall think about them. How do they compare to POWELL? Thanks...

I have never handled a Powell rod but Gary Dobyns designed the Powells as well, and I know he has put his best effort into these rods that bear his name. I have been using Dobyns for a few months now and like them real well. I have five of the Extreme Series rods and have found that they work extremely well for the specific techniques that they were designed for, and also for other applications that are not specifically targeted by design. You can get them online at www.deloscustomtackleshack.com.

I second what Jim said. I too have been using the Dobyns rods for a couple of months and have really enjoyed how they work. They make fishing easier when you use them for the techniques they are specified for. The nice thing is, even though they are technique specific, most models have several techniques they can be used for.

I have replaced all my AllStars with Powells and one Dobyns Champion series. To me they are the same rods - I can't feel any difference in quality, weight, performance, ....

I bought the Dobyns because the Powell I wanted was out of stock. I'll probably buy another soon.

Maybe Jay in Grapevine will tell us the difference in the rods?

The extreme series is being used as my worm and Jig rods, light very sensitive and a prefect balance point. The high modulas graphite blank is durable and stout when needed, I perfer the 705 but the 704 will work as well. It is only prefrence on the anglers side on how stiff he wants his rods to be.

several months ago I was a die hard kistler fan, loved those rods (had a whole set of them for a couple years), and they are very high quality. One of my buddies put a Dobyns in my hand and I was astounded at how light it felt. Looking at the weight of the rod, its heavier than the kistler, but the balance in the rod is second to none, it really makes them easy to fish, they feel light, and have superior components, attention to detail, and overall quality. I cannot comment on how they compare to Powell, but I can say that I was impressed! Please let me know if you have any further questions, or any recommendations for a rod for specific techniques!

Thanks,

Some of you guys may or may not know but when Gary went to Powell Rods he designed a fairly complete line of rods and then due to some business decisions decided not to continue with Powell. He kept his rod designs to start his own line and lamiglass ran with it and is now making the rods. If you have a chance to look at a Powell and a Dobyns rod you will see they are almost identical in design, real seats, raps ect. Gary Dobyns is a great guy and probably one of the most hard working fisherman today. His rods are a reflection of his dedication and time spent figuring out specific techniques and rod application.

I have no affiliation with his company and only know Gary from fishing with him and against him in tournaments over the years. If it was not for all the time and money I have spent on my Loomis collection this would without a doubt be the rods I would use.

I would bet you will not be disapointed if you chose his rods.

Good luck.

I am in Tomball and would like to get in on this action. I have some Dobyns rods in stock and a good supply on the way. If you'll give my your requests I'd be happy to oblige and believe I can meet or beat anyone on service and delivery. I am in Tomball, TX and ship same day.
