To me it's if you are catching fish or not and the people you are out there with. I have been fortunate in having some friends from Dallas with a 53' Hatteras that I have been invited to fish on. You can go days or spend an entire trip waiting or hoping for one bite. We may not catch a fish on one of those trips but being on the boat with good friends having a great time makes me want to go out with them any chance I get. On the flip side, I have had a hell of a lot of fun catching redfish or trout cast after cast down in Venice after a morning of shooting ducks. It's all fun, just in a different way. EIther way, it is more fun than spending your weekends mowing the lawn.

man bob i think you started up a very interesting topic. let me start off by saying that i enjoy fishing just as much as the next guy and nothing makes me happier than to see the smile on my 5yr old son's face when he has something hooked on the other end of his line. whether it be a small pin perch or a keeper trout, i enjoy the time we spend together. whether it be from a pier, a jetty, the surf, or a boat, the memories are cherished nonetheless. i am one to say that if someone has worked hard enough to be able to afford the expensive fishing trips then let him enjoy them. there is nothing wrong with someone who has worked to earn the income they receive. let them enjoy it. on the other hand I can have just as much fun and catch just as many fish fishing inshore. even if we don't catch anything, the time is well $PENT.

You so right Need . Family fishing is a most . I truely believe it is fishing that has made our marriage last 41 yrs . Some of favorite memories are of my daughter catching a 57 lb bull red and a 41 lbs white amour . Thats who has the most fun (priceless)

Who is having more fun is neither a question of place, nor of equipment. I know plenty of people with plenty of money, but they're still miserable buggers. I know plenty of people who survive and struggle with finances from week to week, and some are happy, and some are miserable! The question states 'which person is happier?', and as stated above, is totally subjective to each individual. There's no mean equation to guage a persons happiness. Happy is happy. Wether you wrestle pigs naked in a mud pool, skydive off skyscrapers, or collect rare diamonds, to each, that is his pleasure, and rightly so, as we are all individual and different. Except WWF fans.
"Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." - Henry David Thoreau

I never care what boat or shoreline I am on. As long as I am with Family or friends that I love fishing is where I wat to be. THe same reason I have an old bait caster that never leaves my truck. Anytimme I feel liek a pond or stream looks good I can pull over and wet a line. Its truly one of the most relaxing things I have ever experienced...
