Hey,
Looking at the 03 and up Hemi 1500 or 2500 trucks.
Anyone have one and can you tell me your experience?
How do they pull?
Mileage?
Pros and Cons?
Please no brand wars. I have owned all the big three Ford, Chevy and Dodge... Actually had good experiences with all of them.
Just want to know the specifics on these trucks with the Hemi.
Thanks

I have a buddy that has an 04 3/4 ton with a hemi, and he loves it and pulls great, but it really loves gas stations. I think he told me pulling his boat it got somewhere in the neighborhood of 9 to 11 on the hwy. I dont remeber what he told me it was on on the hwy with no load, I will call him tomorrow and see what he says.
I dont know what kind of use this truck will be used for, but if it's for pulling, have you considered a diesel?

I had a 3/4 ton Hemi and it was maybe the worst gas mileage I've ever experienced wouldn't get 10 pulling the boat. Thirty cents a mile just for fuel ain't no fun, but it ran great.

My brother in law has one. 06 Mega Cab 4x4. Will run and pull anything but the gas mileage sucks.

I now have an 05 1/2 ton 2wd with a Hemi and the sport package
The pros are that it is large inside, very tall despite being a 2wd, has plenty of power, tows good for a gas engine and was quite a bit cheaper than a chevy(fuel cost not included).
The cons are that it gets 11MPG in town and 12-13 towing on the highway, requires at least mid grade gas(just doesn't run good on regular unleaded) and yes I have had it checked out they say that it runs as it should, needs to run 15 seconds before the transmission works correctly(again they say nothing is wrong with it)and it is a Dodge.

just sold an 04 Dodge Rumble Bee. 1/2 ton,Hemi,3.92 gears. 13-14 all day long and as high as 17.7 on the freeway as long as you kept her under 75-80 which was very hard!!! 32000 miles and never had any trans issues.never noticed much difference between unleaded all the way to super unleaded
I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning !!!

Thanks guys,
I have had a two Dodges. One Diesel and one V6,
Both trucks did me well.
I have heard the Hemi sucks the fuel but does pull well.
It can be purchased less than a comparable Chevy or ford most of the time.
I sent Monte a message to see if he had anything I need to look at with the Chevy.
Regards

i was fixing to tell you to call Monte and get the Tff discount going....and yes the Hemi will pull anything you want but it dont pass by many gas stations if you know what i mean...thats why they are cheaper up front because you will make up the difference in price after buying fuel for that thing.

Every truck in the market gets poor gas milage. as far as pulling a boat, get the biggest motor you can. Spend the extra money now, and you will be happier in the long run. I have an 02 quad cab with the 4.7 motor. It pulls just fine. I have not had any problems with it (knock on wood). I get 15 in the city and 17-18 on the highway. If I remember correctly, I think the Hemi gets better milage than the 4.7? I am sure someone will correct me on this.

We bought my son a 2003 1500 w/Hemi and he gets 17.3 mpg daily driving, which is mostly highway, and I got 13 mpg pulling my boat. I however, drive a 2001 Expedition that gets 16.2 mpg daily driver, which is also mostly highway, and it only gets 9 mpg pulling the boat. I could care less...just as long as the boat gets to the lake

I have a 2005 4x4 1500 with the Hemi and pulling my Z20 Ranger I average between 11-12 mpg; gas mileage isn't great but that Hemi is a workhorse!

Hey Yall,
Thanks for all the info.
Looks like I found my truck right in my own backyard. Bought a relatives 02 Superduty with a 7.3L Diesel and it has low mileage on it and is in excellent condition.
This is the 4th Diesel I have owned and had great luck with all of them except the 03 6.0L Ford I had that about made me swear Fords off alltogether.
The 99 Superduty I had with the 7.3L was outstanding and the 04 Dodge Cummins was also oustanding.
I did not want to pay retail price for a Diesel so I was looking at Gas trucks.
I got a great deal on this truck and I am real happy with it so far.
Regards

Congrats on the new truck.
The best thing about it is you know who had it before and how it was taken care of.
