Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area.
It's the Lewisville tailrace.
Sonfish, I don't know why it's not open during the week, you'd have to ask UNT, or the Corps.
But there is a big metal gate across the road, on a timer, and a guard station beyond it where you pay to get in. And before they close at night, they drive back there to make sure you're leaving lol.

Speaking of 'normal' conditions, what do you usually catch later into the fall and winter? I only started going this year near the middle of summer, but it is a great place and I'd like to maybe get some of the rainbows when they start stocking them.
I guess it is a moot point now, but when I was there yesterday they had a sign that said they were open today 7am to 5pm.

The same thing you catch now, hehe. Only it's a lot colder and the fishing is a lot tougher usually.

Hello everyone: I went yesterday again to Llela. Yes they were open for the holday. I got there around 9ish and stayed till 445 pm till they made me leave since I was the last one there. I caught Sandies all day they are still in there and eating like crazy. I tried some bigger lures for Hybrids with no success. Did catch a few Sunfish also. I had wanted to catch some Blues out of there but couldn't catch and Shad to cut up and use as bait. I went to the docks over by Whiskey Peaks and got nothing but Bluegill. I don't know Lewisville at all. If anyone knows where I might catch some shad send me a PM where and how to get there. Anyways I brought home 16 Sandies which I started keep after 1pm. Prior to that I was catching and realeasing. GodZilla

Yeah, rainbow trout stockings (or as I call them largemouth / flathead feedings) in the winter. I'm not a big fan of catching 8" trout, but *if* you want to fish for them anywhere in the DFW area, there is noo better place for it.
It is a lot better that some polluted community pond where the trout are all bunched up. Here, they spread all up and down the river, and after a week or 2 of being in there, become fairly naturalized and a lot tougher to catch.

Yeah, i'm in for the cleanup. I was commenting to myself on Saturday how nobody picks up their trash. that place needs to be kept clean. And a fish check on the way out wouldn't be a bad idea either! -Brian

Lite, unfortuanately, most of the people who don't pick up their trash, are the same people who only fish it when the water is released...IE, Only interested in "easy" fishing and filling up the coolers legally or not. Lots of people who'd probably never fished the spot before showed up as soon as they started releasing water after Lewisville flooded.
For a very long time, the only water released was that used to generate electricity for Garland, and the people who fished the spot were mostly TFF'r types who actually care about taking care of the places they fish.
Last year at this time, the place was pristine!
That's why once the water release is back down, we're going to go out there and try and clean the spot up again. Hopefully once people have to work more for their catch, all those who'd trash the spot will stop showing up again.

Water level is just about down to "normal" again, under 700cfps. That means the river is very small and shallow again hehe. Awesome.
I was going to go this morning, but didn't get much sleep so I postponed it.
I MAY go out tomorrow or Sunday morning. Anyone else heading out?

I'm still waiting to see if my wife will sign off on my travel authorization form...I've been going fishing a little too much lately and neglecting my honey-do list. Don't see what the big deal is, I always invite her!
