I am trying to find facts on pollution and PWC usage. I know that 25-37 percent of unburned fuel from pwc's is distributed into the air and water but I need more facts. Also, does anyone know any safety issues/stastics regarding pwc on lakes?

Both outboard motors and PWC motors probably contribute to pollution. Who knows which are worse but I imagine a two cylinder two stroke motor gives out no more pollution than a V6 outboard.

I think if they ever started limiting motor usage of any kind on our lakes it would effect all of us. Both those like like to fish and those that like to jetski.

All the mfg in the PWC world and the outboard world have made great strides in cleaning up the motors we now run.

Most two strokes put oil and gas into the water. Thats why there has been such a big push with the 4 stroke motors. The 4 stroke motor is the way of the future. I think it's the right thing to do too. After owning lots of two stroke outboards and now owning a four stroke, I will never own another 2 stroke. Unfortunatly to own a 4 stroke you pretty much have to own a fairly new motor. I can understand the financial burden on the fisherman if the state made restricted use of 2 stroke motors on public lakes. I would understand it though! Jet ski manufacturers would then just make them all 4 stroke motors. Thats fine though.

The EPA is starting to implement some stronger emission standards for small engines, 2 & 4 stroke outboards, lawn equipment and others. These new emission standards will require the OEM of said engines to start using emission control devices or catalytic converters to reduce the amount of emissions emitted. The rules will not take place for a few years, but you will start to see the changes in the next few years.

quackills05- My 4 stroke runs smoother and cleaner than any outboard I have ever owned. It also does better on fuel than any outboard I have ever owned. Lets put it this way, it doesnt ever not crank on the first key turn, even when it's below freezing. It doesnt have to warm up and it's not cold natured. It doesnt blow oil and gas out all over the water when i crank it. I fish about 300 days a year. I am extremely interested in cutting my biggest expense which is fuel. I cut my fuel bill by about 50% when I got rid of my 150hp merc and got a 115hp 4 stroke merc. yea, it's not as fast, but who cares. I was spending as much as $800 a month in fuel with my other motor. I am now spending half that. Thats my number one reason besides dependability. hope this helps. Did I mention it's quite? The fish never hear me coming!lol
