I was thinking of trying an 8lb. diameter braid out on one of my spinning rods. I have braid on a couple of my baitcasters for jigs and such, but before I tried it was wanting to know if there are any problems like "spin-off" and such. I fish 6-8lb. mono now but break off alot in the rocks and such, just don't know if braid would help or be more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for the help.

I use 20lb power pro on my spinning rigs with a florocarbon leader from 8 to 15 lbs depending on the situation. This gives you the best of both lines for most situations but probably not the best drop shot setup though. The trick with the leader is to use 15' to 20' of leader length and join to the braid with a uni-knot or j-knot. This length takes the knot out of the stress zone when you have a fish close to the boat and allows the knot to sail through the guides better than if it was closer to the lure.

Braid is the only way I will use a spinning rig. Doesn't get twisted like mono. I know there are ways to minimize twist with mono, but fish a spinning rig so seldom I never remember all the tricks.

What Blu-Ranger said except I don't use a leader and I use a combo of 20 & 30 depending on reel size. Works Great!

If never had a problem with it. Power Pro, is good. I must be one of the few who never had a problem with Spider Wire aswell. I dont much care for P-Line but I dont have a specific reason other than the price comparison

dont forget your mono/floro backing before you put on the braid(power pro is my choice, spider wire did me wrong; after line dries it is extremely weak, especially the knot, i have heard this same complaint from many ppl) this prevents the braid from slipping on the spool, it is wise to match the diameter but if you chose a larger diameter backing use the double uni to uni knot as opposed to a single uni to uni.

I've used 10lb stren super braid on mine with great results.Just don't pinch on a split shot. You will break it on your hook set.

I always use a 3 foot section of flor on the end of the braid however your idea sounds good. Do you have any problems with the longer leader kinking? Thanks kenallen@inreach.com

I have braid on 2 spinning reels and I use a leader in clear water. I use a blood knot because it is as strong as any other knot and it is tapered, so it travels through the eyes much more easily.

I wouldn't use braid on a spinning reel for any type of presentation where you have slack line periodically. It will leave loops that will cause problems on the spool. It may be less of a problem with the stiffer braids.
