Replacing worn out trailer tires is getting old and expensive. I have replace one set of tires and both bearings and have done everything I know but it didn't seem to help. I have Carlise trailer tires. The first row (outer) of the passenger side has completely worn down. The inner three rows barely show any sign of wear. The other side (driver) tire on the other hand is just the opposite. The inner row has worn down completely while the outer rows barely show any sign of wear. These tires are less than 9 months old. I checked and measure the axle this morning to see if there is gross alignment problem but did not see any. It may be time to see professional help. If anyone knows of any trailer shop around DFW, I would appreciate if you pass the info on. The trailer is a single axle towing a 19 footer CC boat.

I had the same problem with Carlisle tires, 3000 miles and 1 year and they were shot. They wore on the inside only. Went back to Goodyear Marathon Radials and haven't had a problem since. First set of Goodyears lasted 8 years with good tread left but put new on because of age. This set is on 3rd year with no sign of wear.

Where is the best place to buy the Goodyear Marathon Radials and how much should I expect to pay?

It certainly could be a bent axle, but I have heard similar things about carlisle tires. I use Goodyear Marathons and have had no issues. Monte, send an email to Stan Browning here on the TFF. He had the best deal by far the last time I got some.

if you have alot of air in the tires (max presure).
and not hauling a very heavy load.
the tires will wear down first on the middle becasue there would not be enough weight to make the tread "flat" when moving on the road.
just think of it this way.
if you have a truck that is light in the rear end and you have max preasure in the tires you will have a slight rise on the tire going from the edge of the tire to the middle (tread).
i really dont know what the problem would be just throwing that info out.

Carlisles will wear the edges if not inflated near the max. I catch myself running low on air and put about 50 lbs in them. I think right now the inside grove on mine are not even making contact with the road. It is important on trailers that you check the air and keep it up.

I bought mine at Wal-Mart.

Here's something to try...if all the other stuff doesn't work!

(1) Measure from the trailer tongue to each tire (same spot on driver & passenger side. (You can measure to the axle hubs) Basically you have formed two sides of what should be an Isosolese Triangle. The measurements should be the same - if not the axle may be sitting in the frame crooked.

(2) Measure from front of passenger tire to front of driver side tire. Then measure from back side of tires. Should be same. If not then one of the tires/wheels/spindles is bent. You can also measure top & bottom if you can get to them.

(3) Have someone pull the trailer and you drive behind and watch for wheel wobble and to see if the trailer is tracking straight.

I have a tandem axle trailer that is chewing up tires on the front axle, which is also the brake axle, I have been wandering how to make sure she's sitting square!!

Hunt n Fish is correct. I had the same problem with a trailer I got with my boat from Travis Boats (never again). The tires were wearing out way too fast. The right tire was wearing on the outside, the left tire on the inside. I swapped the tires to get good rubber on the road. They still wore out within a few years of light pulling.

One time on a coastal trip my brother was pulling the boat and I was driving behind him and I noticed that the trailer seemed to be pulling to the left. Also, any time he hit a bump the trailer would swing side to side a little.

Went we got to Rockport we took a closer look at the trailer and discovered that the axle wasn't bolted on the trailer square. The left (port) side was an inch or two farther back than the right. We jacked up the trailer, loosened the Ubolts, and wacked the left side until both sides measured exactly the same.

Since then no problem.

Well I decided to replace the leaf springs on my trailer since one side shows hairline fracture on two leafs on the left side. I figure this greatly reduces its loading capacity causing the uneven wear on both sides. I replaced the leafs with 3500 lbs capacity from Northern Tool Equipment. These springs (double eyelets) have only 4 leafs compared to the oem 5 leafs. Also, the springs are 27 inches instead of 25 1/2 in the original. The trailer now rides much better but is lowered also (roughly 2 inches or so lower). This much lower ride would seem dangerous to the boat and trailer the next time I hit a good size hole. I couldn't find the 25s locally so decided to try out the 27s. There is a shackle on each side to secure the springs to the trailer hanger. Since no one seems to have these 25s, can I beef up the loading to say 6000 lbs with 6 leafs for my trailer? My trailer is a single axle rated at 2770 lbs capacity and 3500 gvwr. How would this cause the ride and tire wear? Also, does anyone know where I can get kicker wheels for this trailer since I damaged them last night backing up the trailer to my driveway. My driveway slopes quite a bit. My buddy calls it "suicidal" driveway.

I had the same proble with Carlise tires, to tempermentle with air pressure, went back to Goodyearn no more problems.
