If so can you please tell me your thoughts on it?
How does it pull etc?
MPG?
Pros and Cons
Please no brand wars. I have owned all the big three Ford, Chevy and Dodge... Actually had good experiences with all of them.
Thanks

I had a 2000 z71 with the 5.3 and it was pretty quick for a 4 wheel drive. It pulled anything I put back there with ease. I got about 16 in the city. Now I have a 2000 silverado with the 4.8. All I have pulled with it is the boat. It pulls it like it is not even back there and gets about 16 in the city as well.
Yes I did admit defeat. Good job back to back champion

I have had both and there is not much difference between the two. Both are strong motors and have pulled anything I have hitched up to it, but mostly just a 19ft bass boat. Pulls the boat like a dream.

I have a GMC 07 Classic 4X4 Crewcab with the 4.8L rated at 285 hp. It pulls my 20' Skeeter with no problem as well as our 16' trailer loaded with a 35hp Case Trator and shredder. Gets 17 highway and probably 15 in town. Gets around 13 pulling my boat depending on if there is alot of hills or not. Only complaint is that with the smaller v8 it will kick into passing gear more when on cruise control. I was sceptical with the smaller v8 having a 350 in my Z71 that I traded in but have been happy so far. Supposedly the newest ones get better gas milage with that fuel management technolgy.

Stacey, Like you, I've owned all of them and have averaged a new truck every 2 years since '92. I went thru 2 transmissions in my last Ford and lost one in the Dodge at 50K. I saw in the other post you were going to look up Monte. I bought my 05 1500 Crewcab from him. It's got the 5.3L and factory towing package. I tend to be a leadfoot and it pulls my 21 footer at 70+ the majority of the time. Towing is great and I've had several Chevy owners comment on the good ride and turning radius of the crew vs. the heavy halfs. I've now got 52K on it and it drives great. I'm on my 2nd set of tires but got to buy new wheels at the same time, so that wasn't an issue. I have had to replace the front calipers for warping but I found out it was an issue of trailer brakes not working properly. I've fixed both and have had no issues. Bought new rotors for about $40 each thru one of the local parts stores. Mileage is adequate and usually runs around 16mpg. I've never bothered to check it while towing, but I use the same amount of gas running to Fork and back as I did in my Fords and my Dodge. Keep in mind the leadfoot comments above. Overall I'm very happy with the truck.

I had an 04 Z66 Avalanche with the 5.3 and now an 07 LT3 Av with the 5.3 Flex Fuel with AFM. Both had the locking differential. My rig is around 4600 lbs and both vehicles have towed like it wasn't there. On downgrades and level stretches the AFM will kick in and go into V4 mode. Probably not a big deal, just a fun factoid. 04 averaged around 15, 07 averages around 17 normally, knock 3-4 mpg off while towing.
No noticeable difference between how the two handle the load, the 07 is a smoother ride overall. The drive by wire throttle on the 07 does make a difference in some situations, though.
