If it's so great, why wouldn't manufacturer's put that on in the first place and eliminate spun props all together?

Jake, you spin a prop when you hit something. If you couldn't spin the prop, you would tear up your prop and possibly more. The idea is that it is better to spin a prop than have extensive damage. So it is necessary that you can possibly spin a prop even though it is something you hope never happens. If it does (and it will eventually) happen, then this device will get you home. I might have to get one. Pretty cheap insurance policy.

The cost is not the problem. You just have to buy a new rubber insert. The real problem is being 20 miles from the boat ramp in a gail-force wind with a 30-pound sack of fish.

Hmm, well that makes sense now! Thanks squib. What's the normal cost of spinning a prop, ya'll are freakin me out!? Around $60 to have a new hub pressed in. I carry a spare prop but this does look interesting.

dont forget to put the socket and drive in your boat.... would kinda suck to have that nice new piece to get you home and nothing to take the nut off...

I carry one of those plastic prop nut "wrenches" in my boat at all times. (It floats)

I carry the prop wrench as well. I'm ordering one of these now. A 20 mile slow idle on the big motor is a heck of a lot safer and quicker than wearing out the trolling motor batteries for 20 miles, especially in high winds.

Thanks for the link Chris, that'll save a headache that is sure to happen sooner or later.

nice thing about Mercury and Powertech props. just carry a spare hub and a prop wrench. can be changed out in 5 minutes.
looks like a good idea for everyone that has to run another brand prop.

I can prop wrench, and a spare hub.. , and a full set of tools as well, along with fuses, zip ties, and plenty of rope in case something happens big time...
But this seems interesting for those who do not want to carry all of those spare parts...
