I just got a Penn 114 sitting on a 80-100 lb rated Tsunami rod. One thing is missing, line. What is the best line in the 80 lb class to use for trips that go out around 60 miles?

Depends on how deep you will be fishing. say 100' deep, then you will need 60 miles and 200' of line.

Longhorn,
You may want to look into braided line. It is a lot thinner than mono of the same test which will put a lot more line on the reel. If you are bottom fishing the thinner diameter equates to less drag and less of a bow in your line. I have 100# Power Pro on my spinning and levelwind and works great for me. You can put a bunch of mono on your reel as backing and use an Albright knot to splice the mono to the braid if you wish. When fishing for tuna, marlin, etc. may want to use a mono top shot since the braid will not stretch.

Too broad of a question..
Will you be fishing structure? Drifting? What are you planning on targeting.. Snapper?
If you are in less than 200' of water then I would use Momoi Diamond in 50#.
Going deeper or jigging, then I would do 50-80# braid with 65# being the benchmark.
Fishing structure? Braid, you want to be able to yank that fish into the clear before he runs around and gets tangled up.

Can't use braid on these trips. On the last two trips I've been on, the deckhands on both boats have made it very clear that braid is not allowed since they will cut the lines of the other fishermen if a fish tangles them up. Also, will be fishing around 150-250 feet.

Well..
If they won't let you use spectra then the answer is simple...
Spool your reel up with 50# (Momoi, Big Game, CXX, Ande) then have a 20 foot leader (Seaguar 85#, Momoi Hi Catch 80#,).
That way as the fish gets near the boat the stonger line will allow you more control over the fish which will make everyone fishing near you happier.
Use the Reverse Albright knot to connect the two lines.
Will you be bringing your own rigs?

If he is going out of Port Aransas, he is a lot farther away from High Island than a 1 hour drive.
Just checked, it is right at 250 miles from Port Aransas to Galveston.

Oh.. So you're fishing with Dolphin Docks.. Bummer Dude! Go with DHS or Offshore adventures in Port A and you can use your braid. They know it's the skill of the fisherman and not the braid that causes problems.. Bazz

I just strung my 114s with 400 yards of 60# mono line. I'd probably say that 60# is a little to heavy for a party boat though, maybe 40-50# would be better....
If you only looking at the party boats, you'll almost always be in less than 100' of water. The 114's probably overkill for 90% of what you catch on those things.

I almost always use a rod and reel that is overkill when I fish saltwater because I would rather have too much line and too heavy of a line than too little and too light. I want to always be prepared for the day that a monster of the sea decides to take my bait.
