COttus Man, Please provide one link to a study on a Texas lake where carp were detremential to the other species in the lake.
I'm talking about public lake or water way.
I know that in shallow natural lakes and silted in lakes up north they can cause some problems. Show me where they've caused damage here in Texas to justify throwing them on the bank. Without that, what is being spewed is indeed propaganda meant to sway opinions to the negative.

I'm not participating in this thread. It's just trollers. It's kind of like being a fireman racing to the emergency in the fire engine and stopping along the way to deal with every barking dog. They just don't matter.
Besides, I have a contest to win.
Also, Isn't it funny how all of these trollers are coming out of the woodwork all of a sudden? Brand new posters to the forum no less.

FortWorthBret, You are right. My opinion doesn't count since I fish in my spare time instead of sitting around and writing about fishing on a forum.

heh. I though posting on forums was what work was for.
The only problem with posting from work, is you can get bored enough to feed the trolls.

Thus making my point for me.
I'm still posting in here though. It is a slow day at work.

Wow...i'm almost sorry I posted this thread and asked the question. Certainly didn't mean to start a war of words and postings.

Wowzers, got back from lunch and the world exploded. Nice move on the moderator's part, whatever that was about. Anyway, here's some information on the effect of common carp. Before I go though, I just wanted to let everyone know that I wasn't trolling, just saw the topic title and knew it was my duty to try and educate those with open minds. I agree though with smile n nod, it was a fair question and ebjr shouldn't feel bad, it was just when others started posting less civil replies that things got out of hand (Some of those comments just made me laugh). Here's some of the requested information: http://www.afsifs.vt.edu/afspos.htmAn excerpt from the link on "Habitat Alteration" "Although grass carp have proven to be an excellent bio logical control for aquatic vegetation, a risk exists that aquatic plants (including native forms) might become overly decimated as a result of grass carp predation which in turn would limit nursery areas for juvenile fishes, cause bank erosion, and accelerate eutrophication through release of nutrients previously stored in the plants. A risk also exists that grass carp could adversely impact waterfowl habitat and rice fields. However, no major adverse impacts associated with grass carp have yet been documented. Although common carp was not introduced to North America for aquatic weed control, its foraging behavior results in vegetation removal both by direct consumption and by uprooting due to its proclivity to dig through substrate in search of food. The latter activity also results in increased water turbidity. The common carp is the most often cited nuisance introduced fish in North America (Kohler and Stanley 1984) with millions of dollars having been spent for control and eradication, but with little success (Laycock 1966; Courtenay and Robins 1973)." Also here's a couple of extra papers. Lougheed, V. L., Crosbie, B., Chow-Fraser, P. (1998) "Predictions on the effect of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) exclusion on water quality, zooplankton, and submergent macrophytes in a Great Lakes wetland" Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences 55: 1189-1197 Fletcher, A. R., Morison, A. K., Hume, D. J. (1985) "Effects of carp, Cyprinus carpio L., on communities of aquatic vegetation and turbidity of waterbodies in the Lower Goulburn River Basin" Australian Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research 36: 311-327 Zambrano, L., Scheffer, M., Martinez-Ramos, M. I think the most disturbing thing is the fact that you think nothing is applicable to this state outside its borders. Don't waste my time, do your own homework. Heck, it sounds like a great research project, I'm sure you'll get right on it.
