I am a die hard LMB fisherman. I have only caught striper on occasion by accident. Usually on a spinner, reeling in fast. I enjoy catching them but don't know the propper/best way. I currently fish belton and still-house, occasionally I fish fork and conroe.

Do you mean Hybrids? They only have them in Belton. None have been stocked in Stillhouse since the 80's. It has white bass. Neither has stripers. Come join in the Belton Bunch thread. We all live in your area and will be glad to get you hooked on hybrids, lol. In my opinion they fight harder than stripers. Right now trolling with hellpets and slabbing are best in the evening. Live bait after dark on a carolina rig.

Well, I gotta get back to the states first. Probably be on the lake by x-mas. Will give Belton Bunch a look see. Thanks.

I've found that it's best to have your lure in the water where the fish are ....

... sorry, couldn't pass that up. Everything I've seen and been told (along with my meager experience on hybrids/stripers) can be summed up simply: best way to catch them is with live shad.

From my experience, I would say three primary methods come to mind.

1) Topwater - when you see them schooling
2) Roadrunner / Little George / Tailhummer / Rooster Tail / Rat L Trap - for subsurface presentations when you see sporadic surface activity or they won't commit to come up and get the topwater.
3) Slab / Kastmaster / Bucktail Jig / Jigging spoon - for fishing deeper structure (humps, points, etc.) when the fish are relating to the bottom. These can also be extremely effective at getting below the smaller fish of a surfacing school for the larger fish lingering below.

Good Luck.

The best lure that I have used to catch stripers/hybrids is the Storm Wildeye pearl white. It looks like a shad and swims like a shad. Just cast and reel in. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. They will let you know. I have been out around a school with 10 other boats and this lure outfished everything the other guys were throwing 2 to 1. No exaggerating either. My best hybrid so far on Wildeye was 8lbs11oz at Tawakoni this spring. Week before caught a 8.5 same lake, same lure. BTW it will also catch LMB!! Good luck bassmac.
