So I went out to Joe Pool Lake today after work to get in a few hours of fishing before it got dark. I brought 2 spinning rods and my fly rod and one can of corn. I got there about 5:30 and threw out about half of the can in a semi wide area on the main lake and set up my spinning rods. I probably sat there for 30 minutes before I started to get bored so I set up my fly rod and started casting small woolly buggers on the edges of my baited area with no luck. I went to change flies when one of my rod's drag started screaming(had it set very light). I lifted the rod out of its holder adjusted the drag slightly and gave it a few cranks and it was hooked for sure. I could tell it wasn't going to be very big but I let him take line out and played him for about 5 minutes. A typical Joe Pool Carp but it was a start.

I released him and set my rod back up and checked the other rod's bait. Within 30 minutes I had another fish on. This one was a little bit bigger but still not a bruiser. I was having some trouble getting the circle hook out of his flabby lips and a guy fishing down the way ran over to give me a hand and snapped a picture with my camera for me. Kinda windy out there but nice just hanging out.

I let him go and re baited my rod and decided I would pack up my fly rod and clean up the trash around where I was fishing while I was waiting for the next run. It didn't take long and my reel was screeching again. Once again not a very big fish but fun none the less.

I then packed up my med action spinning rod and moved the ultra light over to the area where I caught all three carp at. It wasn't even 5 minutes and the drag started to run, but stop. Run and then stop. I pulled it up and started cranking and pumping. Turned out to be about a 6" catfish. No pictures were taken of the kitty. At this point it is 7:30 and I had been out there for 2 hours and I decided to head home before the wife started calling. 3 carp and 1 kitty in 2 hours, not bad for an after work session.

No big secret , it is the area right behind Lynn Creek Marina off Lake Ridge Road. I was really scouting how I am going to get my inflatable pontoon under all the little bridges so I can sight cast to all the carp at the Oasis with my fly rod. It would be like taking candy from a baby as trained as those carp are to getting fed.

hey scottevil, the best way to get to the carp feeding spot is to wait till it floods, then float your pontoon aroun d the bridges in the slip parking lot. i believe it is legal as long as it is flooded

From what I scouted out yesterday, I can squeeze under the bridges on the slip side at normal pool so once my spider bite is fully healed I am going to give it a shot. Hell, I am thinking about heading back down there right now to see what kinda trouble I can get into with my ultra light and a can of corn nuts

I just got back from there. 2 Carp in 2 hours. I missed a few more due to the fact that I was practicing some worm casting on my bass rod.

We're definitely going to have to hook up there. PM me next time you go. I like hitting that spot for some late night action.

Isn't it amazing how much fun a person can have with a 50 cent can of sweet corn and a cheap rod & reel combo????

That's what I've been doing over at Tawakoni: A couple of cans of sweet corn and some spin-cast combos! It's like being a kid again! smile smile

I've even been using hair rigged boilies on my spin-cast combos. All of those expensive rods & reels I've got and I'm using spin-cast combos! Do people start getting senile at 51? smile smile smile Or am I just starting my second child-hood? smile smile smile
