I went to my normal spot loaded with my 8 wt.and a half & half. No takers for two hours, but I could see the fish all over the place. Strangely, the fish were right on the bank in ~6 inches of water. This is the wierdest thing I have ever seen. I switched to a chartreus leach pattern which didn't improve my luck. At ~9:00 I hooked one. At first, I though I must had foul hooked it since the hook was on the outside of the lip instead on inside. Thinking it was a fluke, I casted again and immediately hooked into another. From then on, it was non-stop. Every cast had a striper on. Then it shut off after 10 min. I guess the school moved on. I ended up landing about 5 fish (largest at 24 inches), but losing way more due to my poor stripping hook set technique.

Interesting observations:
1. All fish were skinny and had zero stomach contents when I cleaned them.

2. Why did the leech pattern work? I don't think it imitates any natural forage. It was just a big attractor fly. I was also stripping fast.

3. Fish were seen in very skinny water. Why?

I'm catching them every morning using poppers around the islands. The fish are moving in chasing schools of shad. The condition of the fish is improving. It varies from school to school.
