That's the question, what weight rod would you build? I'm thinking a 6wt and maybe running 7wt line. Or would you choose to build a 7 or 8wt rod for those 8+ lb LMBs? Keeping in mind that they like cover, I'd want something that can throw large bass bugs and present them with accuracy.
I'm thinking this is going to be a winter project around the holidays, maybe a little gift for myself.

if you plan on throwing big bass bugs go with an 8wt and it can double as your inshore rod

Well, if you are intending to throw big old bugs and such as that then an eight weight would be minimum. Overlined with a nine or ten weight line or build a custom bass bug line by cutting some belly out of a ten or eleven weight line. For better accuracy a faster action (notice that I did not say super-fast, that's not necessarily what you want either, but enough to get the bug zipping pretty good).
Might I suggest testing some rods out before committing to a blank that does not fulfill your needs. Heckuva thing to build a rod and then not be pleased with it.

Yes, My first consideration was an 8wt. I thought that might be a little much, glad to hear I wasn't crazy. I'm certainly going to be trying at least a couple of rods out before I commit to a blank.
Thanks for the feedback!
