Just got this in an email, figured people on here could appreciate it! What a fish!!!

This is supposedly the new Northern Pike record in Canada, caught in the Winnipeg River in Manitoba.

The story goes, the guy was reeling in a 36" northern he caught on live bait, when the 55" northern came up and tried to eat the 36"er. The guy then proceeds to net the two fish, as the big fish was pretty determined to eat the smaller one, and wouldn't let go.

The last picture, with the two fish in the water is AMAZING. Anyone who has seen a 36" northern in person can really ppreciate how massive the 55"er was.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

The current world record is 46-lbs. 2 oz out of Sacandaga Reservoir in New York waaaaayyyyyyy back in 1940. This fish will definitely slaughter that as it appears to be well over 50-lbs.

I'm currently looking for more info on it like official weight.

I'm not going to lie, if I ever saw that, I am not sure if I would ever be able to sleep again. a 36 inch Pike is more often than not well over 10 lbs, how big was that 55", looks like a freak. It has to be over 40 lbs!
