I posted this is in the "Tow Vehicles and Autos" section with less response than I desired, so I decided to post it here knowing it will get more attention here. Thanks in advance!

I am expecting my new Tundra to be in later this week. I was told that they are broken in at the factory and do not require any additional break in. I am suppose to fish the Bass Champs Big Bass tournament this weekend. If I picked up my new Tundra on Friday, do you think it would be appropriate to tow my boat the very next day? I realize that sometimes it is tough to separate fact from opinion, but what do you think?

I'd call the Service Manager at the dealership I'm buying from. I bet he'd know the straight scoop.

'Break-In' on every vehicle I've ever owned (including a Toyota 4-Runner) was NOT to tow for the first 500 miles.

When I broke mine in I didn't get into 4th gear for the first 1000 mikes when towing. Better transmissions than the GM that broke down on me several times when towing.

Call 'em up, JT. The stop/go might be harder on it than cruising down the highway.

If you have a house or know a friend out there you could tow your boat out there this week and leave it until Saturday. Then you dont have to tow with the new truck. I wouldnt tow with it until you have 500 miles on it though.

Those new Tundra's are some good looking trucks. I have a Tecoma right now and you can not kill that thing. Best trucks on the road.

I just called the service department and they said they come pre-broken in and they are ready to go in regards to towing. Still makes me a little nervous, but I might agree with Chad in that a slow steady pull might be easier on it than the stop and go requirements of normal San Antonio driving.

Good luck with the truck. With the power in that beast you won't even know it's towing a boat.

saskeeter

If you went with the 5.7, if you woulendent mind posting some #'s and info when towing I would apriciate it.

I have the 5.3 chevrolet 3.73 and I have heard some people say they love how it will tow a 21'er, personaly I think it tows awfull 10-11 mpg, and you cant pass anything at 70mph unless you down hill down wind.

If there is no brake in tow period with the new Toyotas then Im going to bring my boat up there before I buy one and hook on to it to see how it will tow it.

I tow a 19ft w/ my new tundra 5.7..previously towed w/ a dodge 5.7 hemi....the tundra pulls my boat like it's not even back there, and i haven't calculated exact mileage but it is definitely better than the dodge...

There used to be a break-in period on new vehicles few years back but most of the newer model vehicles in the recent years do not have a break-in period anymore. I purchased a Honda Pilot last year and could not find anything that mentioned a break-in period in the manual. With that being said, I still treated as there was one anyhow ...
