So, yesterday when I was out I was having a hooking issue with my fly cast. As my line unrolled at the end of the forward cast it would actually hook back towards my left(I'm right handed). It's like it would unroll, and then keep unrolling. I seem to think I was stopping the rod tip to suddenly.

I focused on not forcing or overpowering anything which I found to be very beneficial, I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and can give me of some ideas.

Kube, it is called a curve cast. It can be a useful cast to learn to be able to do on command. It can be used to add a mend to the line or to cast around an obsticle.

One way to do this cast is to stop the forward cast a little early and to make the stop real hard and fast. This will cause the rod tip to continue moving and will add a left hand curve to the line for right handed caster. It is more difficult for a right hander to cast a right curve cast.

Try using a longer casting stoke (move your hand forward further) to correct this cast.

Good Luck,
Rex

Yes Rex, this is exactly what is happening. I was out this morning and saw what you are describing. Once I lengthened my casting stroke and made it a little more gentle, the problem went away.

Thanks,
Matt

Matt, that's cool that you figured it out. Now the question is, can you make it curve on purpose?
