My family is looking to get together for the weekend somewhere here in North Texas. The guys love to fish and the women love to shop. We are going in October sometime but cannot make the first weekend in October (ie - first Monday trade days in Canton for the ladies is a no go). I'd like some suggestions on where to stay. We have six adults (3 couples) and 2 kiddos under 1 year old. Ideal would be a cabin on the lake big enough for all of us to sleep in actual beds with shopping (antiqueing) close of the ladies. I know it is a tall order because it sounds more like heaven than north Texas but I figured I'd give it a shot. Thanks in advance.

A bit of a drive but Lake Bob Sandlin is nice. The State Park has cabins for rent. Not sure of the shopping though.
Lake Whitney is another suggestion.

Not sure about the shopping, but Whitney has some great places to overnight. http://www.lakewhitneyresorts.com/RDL

Lake Grandbury
Many craft and antique shops on the square, nice motel or B&B options and the lake is right there. Not the best fishing option but a good solution for all.
If the fishing is primary then hit Lake Fork. The ladies can drive several places to find shops in Emory, Sulpher Springs, Canton, Greenville etc.

You need to think about the time from Canton to Lake Palastine.

How about Texoma. Lots of cabins for rent right on the lake and great antiquing in Pottsborro and neighboring communities.

How about Texoma. Lots of cabins for rent right on the lake and great antiquing in Pottsborro and neighboring communities. If Texoma is open, then Tanglewood Resort is a nice option. Check out their website for further details.

My first thought was also Bob Sandlin. My family has stayed in the cabins at Sandlin several times and it is a good state park. Some shopping in Mt. Pleasant or Pittsburgh. However what I think would be a better trip based on what you described is Lake of the Pines. We were on it last October and had some good success fishing and there is some very good antique shopping and local history nearby in Jefferson for the ladies. We did tent camping that trip at the Johnson Creek Corp park but there are several motels / cabins nearby and many bed and breakfast in Jefferson. I think this would be perfect for what you are describing.

Since someone brought up Tanglewood...
If you are looking for a nice place to stay, I have a Villa up that that we have been trying to sell. We are open to renting out our week up there, if it's something that you would be interested in.
Not sure how large of family your trying to fit in there, but if you get the entire Villa, we have personally had my entire family in there with 8 adults and a bunch of kids (kids get the floor though) in the full Villa and lockout. There is also a full kitchen, if you like to cook your own food, or fish, each night.
I'll pm you my number if you wanna talk about it.
