You are going to fish your home waters for black bass. What would be your approach this time of year and what lure's would you start out with?

i'd be throwing fast moving lures like traps, cranks, jerks and spinnerbaits. i like to try to get some reaction bites to find concentrations of fish and then slow down on key stucture and cover once i've figured out general locations.

After this cold front I would start with rum and then move to vodka or maybe even Baileys. YUM.

I would take senko9s advice and add in a slow moving StrikeWorks flippin finesse jig once I found some fish and work that area over good. I would also take bass_addict's advice on the Bailey's, Ummmm!

Just my opinion, but I think the winter time bite the fish are just slower and go after the slower baits.
Since I am on my home lake I won't need the faster moving baits to locate fish and I already know the structure. Start working the finese baits in light weights and throw it right in front of them.
It has been a couple years since I tourney fished for bass and now I striper fish in the winter but I always have a bass rod ready. When I am in the coves I fish only the structure for bass with a fluke, bass assassin or 5" sassy shad.
I always get my biggest bass and stripers in the winter using slower baits and taking my time -- slow everything down and be precise with your cast.

i slow way down. Fish areas I know hold fish. Once I get a couple, then I start experimenting with baits. I start off with a confidence bait that produces everytime I am there.
Sometimes I will leave the bait in one place and just wiggle it every now and then. Usually they will sit there and watch it until I start to reel it in, then WWHAMMO!!! Lost two nice ones last weekend this way.

On Toledo Bend, at East Hamilton...we have been catching bass and spots, on 4 inch Yum Dingers weightless. The trick is to SLOW DOWN! BAM! That is near the river, by the way...shallow flats near dropoffs.

On Toledo Bend I would be throwing a Texas Rigged Gene Larew 7 Salty Ring Worm Cinnamon Pepper Neon/June Bug Laminated (Camouflage). Or Gene Larew Salty Hawg Craws in 6, 5, & 4 in the following colors. Junebug/Blue Claws,Black/Blue Claw,& Black Neon. And Bill Lewis oz Rat-L-Trap Gold/Black Back/Orange Belly.
Daily Prayer: Dear God, please put your arms around my shoulders and your hand over my mouth.

Okay guy's I'll take your advice, I'll try to go this weekend and if they don't bite, I'll take bass-addicts advice. Maybe I should warm up the rum--You Think???

Well, I'd find some grass and either fish REALLY fast or REALLY slow. I'd fish fast with a trap and slow with a t-rig or c-rig greenpumpkin lizard
