They spent all that time and money building a high water ramp and it has been closed for some time now. Is it closed because the parking lot is under water? I drove by yesterday for a update since I haven't been on the water in a while and noticed that it was still closed. I didn't take the time to walk down and take a look. I was surprised to see that they still had all of the roads closed to the point where you couldn't even get within a 100 yards of the ramp and the fact that the high water ramp is closed.

Anyone got the scoope on the opening of the high water ramp?

It may open this weekend. They said it would open when the lake dropped to 547. It is at 548.15 right now. They wanted to have it open for the holiday weekend, but I am not sure it will be. When they shut it down before, when the road was still open - guys would move the barricades to launch. I think it is more of a liability issue than anything else. People want to blame someone else if they damage their truck or boat getting on a lake with high water.

WESP - The high water ramp is at Katie's Woods. Between Dooley Road and The Gaylord Texan. Close to the dam on the Grapevine side.

Thanks, that's a lake I have wanted to fish since I got my boat last year but it's been either too low or too high.

I am pretty sure it is a parking issue. When the high water ramp was open but the parking lot was underwater people were parking all up and down the road...not other place to park.

My guess is the city didn't like that and had decided to keep it closed until more parking is usable.

Your kidding right?? Anytime you go to the lake it is at your own risk PERIOD! I am so tired of this excuse being used as a reason why we cant use this ramp. Why should those of us with common sense be punished for the idiots?? Its BS!!! If you sink your truck at the ramp its your problem not the city, once again its all at your own risk. I have seen the high water ramp from the water, as far as I am concerned it could have been used the entire time, even at 20 ft high you just have to back down from the road instead of having a turn around. I could back down that ramp without hitting anything any day of the week. There are no more floaters all over the lake, the picnic tables are all visible, and that high water ramp is good to go so whats the deal? Parking? Mabey they should have thought about that before spending the $$$ from the grant on a new crapper. The city is going to lose a TON of money from ramp fee's this weekend, and I can only imagine what Silverlake will look like..... sorry for the rant, this is just one of those issues that gets me fired up.

I agree...I think someone just dropped the ball and didn't consider the parking issue at all...

You would have thought that would have been something to consider when building the high water ramp. If you look at how high the water has to be to use the high water ramp, at least most of the parking lot is sure to be underwater.

Even if you have to park along the side of the road all the way up to Dooley seems like the ramp should be open. After all, that ramp was built for when the water is high - right noidea

that high water ramp is a great idea, i used it a couple times before they closed it, but you better watch out for the lice and fleas, they dont know how to back a trailer right or anything and wait til they are in the turn around area to even unstrap and all that [censored]. they should have made that turn around go all the way thru so you could pull up and get out of the way faster without holding up traffic. one guy in one of those stupid wakeboard boats even strapped everything down, unloaded people, etc right after pulling out of the water. boy was i MAD MAD MAD

I wonder if Grapevine will refund those of us that bought ramp permits at the beginning of the year? Lake Arlington gave the following years permits free..

Like it or not, we are being penalized for the idiots who cannot back down a ramp properly. There is no other reason the City would not want the revenue of having ramps open.

It's not the city folks, they lease from the Corp. of Army Engineers. Corp. park rules state that no vehicle shall park on the grass but only on paved areas. They finally opened the water release gates again to the most I have ever seen. 1607-cfs compared to the bare miniumum of 75-cfs for the shared water agreement downstream. It is just a matter of days now...hopefully, and then the high water ramp will be a nightmare just like Silverlake.
