Any good word for Gene and me? The family and I will be there next week. If nothing else, I WON'T be at the office and I'll be excatly where I want to be (with my wife and kids,) but having some crappie for the evenings would be a big bonus!

Went looking on the INet and found this site. Pay attention to details on this site.

Thanks, redfin. That's Steve Pebley's site, cooperlakeguide here on TFF. He's a great guy to go fishing with. My son went out with him a year and a half or so ago and we had a blast! He really got us hooked on Cooper before she bottomed out.
yard dog, we're going, too, regardless of the fishing. Leaving Sunday afternoon, staying through Wednesday at a cabin in the South Sulphur part of the state park. Sorry our paths won't be crossing this time around. My wife and I are both from Texarkana, more precisely Nash.

Just got back from cooper. We fished yesterday afternoon and this morning. Wind and more wind. killed my trolling mtr battery. we (6) ended up with 64 keepers. I will go back when the wind settles. I love all that timber.

Gene,
Can you offer any hints on where you found 'em and what you were doing to bring 'em up? I guess the timber you mean is the stuff at the west end of the lake.
Thanks!

Going to Cooper this evening. Got a stupid question though, what does a bois d' arc tree look like? When I go in the timber, I just see wood instead of different types of trees.

Nate, the bois darcs have lotsa of smaller limbs coming out of the water as opposed to one big stump. How deep were ya'll fishing yard dog? I might sneak outta KS for the holiday weekend and maybe spend one afternoon on the lake...

I found most fish in the cedars and a few around bois d arc close to open water. my theory (theories are like a** holes, every one has one) the crappie hang close to open water to ambush shad. Cedar will have a cluster of smaller stick-ups and a huge base. Some time there is only one stick with a 20-25' diameter base. Bois d arc are big wood with lots of branches. Plan on hang-ups. We put in at John's creek ramp, took the boat run to open water, turned left outside the post, went to an open area with a big tree next to the open water.

We found fish in 14-18' water fishing 12-15'deep. Red/Chartrues seemed to work best.
