well i think i may have upgraded or welllll not sure.

i had the lowrance 522 and it was pretty nice. all the hype of the side imaging and all i broke down and bought one. transducer is like a big brick. but its on there. and the puc for the gps welllll its on there. have not got to try her out. but i did get to try the gps out. it finds the location fast compared to lowrance. but the maps in this unit look like a 5 year old went to town with some markers. the worst i have seen.

just curious if anyone else has had luck with this unit and what you really think of it. also i did get to watch the simulation and how do you tell if there is a fish????

I have one and love it. I've found structure I'd never noticed with a convintional graph. Of if I did notice it I wouldn't have known what it was. You can see fish with side imaging, but you can't just drive by docks and see what pole they are on. It works best in deeper water such as road beds, humps, ridges, etc. I like using the split screen with a conventional view and side imaging. The side imaging makes it easier to define the structure and conventional view makes fish ID easier. The combo is deadly.

Get the Navionics chip and your mapping troubles are solved.

The main advantage I see is that the Humminbird gives you a world more information compared to what we have had available to us previously. I don't do math but with side imaging you are seeing at least 20 times the amount of lake bottom at one time.

Brush piles and rocks will not be as hidden as in the past.

At least I hope so. I have a 797c2si sitting here waiting to be put on my boat. The different gps mapping is going to be something to get used to and yes in watching it on a store unit it looks like the Lowrance is much better mapping.

The 987 is an increadable structure finding tool. Learn to use it in cnjunction with HD Navionics maps, and you will be tough to beat.

I want one...

Went out on Hubbard on a boat with one and looked at structure I knew, well thought I knew, the detail was incredible. Bridge pilings with brush become obvious, brushpiles no longer have to be run directly over...I want one!

They take the HD Navionics maps so you can't get better maps.

Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

fish show as little white specks above the structure. takes a trained eye to see this. just turning on a unit and driving around the lake hoping it will do all the work for you, should not be expected. I can see if the fish are on the edges, on top, or next to the structure............ Navionics maps are the best to use in this unit. The best part I like, is that when I see structure, I can move the cursor over to it(the crosshairs) and push a button to save the location.... then come back to it on the GPS....
