Does anyone solely plan fishing trips in relation the the moon phases and rise times? What effect does it have? Have always heard moons out the fish are biting!

I generally get to fish every other Saturday (deal I worked out with She Who Must Be Obeyed) - I write 'em in on the calendar many months in advance (helps enforce my rights) - before I do, I write in the full and new moon phases, and do my best to avoid weekends 2-3 days before & after 'em (especially after, and especially especially after the full moon). Just because over the years, whenever my fishing days coincided with full & new moons, the fishing was never as good. Not a scientific study, just general impression based on experience. I won't *not* go fishing just cause of the moon, though.
Now you mention it, might be worth noticing whether the moons up or not in the daytime.

Depends on the specie of fish - freshwater redfish I prefer daytime fishing during the new moon phase and I like the moon rise to over head period.
Full moon periods may have you adjusting your fishing times from daytime to first light and evening or night fishing. Then I like the night fishing with the period moon rise to overhead again, especially during the months of December/January/February below Texoma dam. I really think it affects stripers as well.

I have noticed over the years (I primarily fish nites) That the bite seems to begin after a moonrise that general comes up shartly after it gets dark.

Being an old Navy man, this is the chart I use.

In the summer I used to fish for largemouth on nights around the full moon. When the moon made it up about 30 degrees off the horizon they would come out of the creek onto the flats and start feeding.
I'm thinking something like that happens with whites and stripers, the morning bite doesn't seem to be as good on nights with a lot of moon.

Predators feed during nights with lots of light & around noon. New moon phases - they feed at dawn & dusk. Dec-Feb - best feeding times 2-4pm during the heat of the day jigging with humbugs & silver/white deceiver flies tied 18" above the humbugs/humdingers.
