My Ambassador 4600 fell apart the other day, and I am looking for a replacement to use for cranking deep crankbaits. I was looking at that David Fritts crankin reel and wondered if it is any good. It seemed smooth at the store, but haven't bought anything yet.

I like the idea of a low ratio for deep cranks but was hoping to get some reports.

I've had it for about a year and I really like it for deep cranks. It has given me no problems and I can chunk those things a long way and rarely backlash it. I like the bar that goes across the spool so you can hang your hook easier too. The handle is comfortable enough to use all day. I would recommend it.

Yep, and I absolutely love it for throwing big cranks. I got the 4.7:1 gear ratio, and cranking a DD-22 is as about as hard as cranking a Bandit 100 series or even a trap with a high speed reel. I highly recommend them. I made a post about it in the rods and reels section.

It happened to the best of them: John 21:3

I have 2 of them. I use one for my shallow cranks and a Calcutta for my deep cranks! The Fritts is nice but the Calcutta is nicer smile Ive got a 4.7.1 and the 5.2.1. I use the slower one since Im pretty much a speed demon smile
