My only experience was selling my old popup camper on FB. Probably sold it too cheap. I had 30 to 35 PMs within 1/2 a hour and only 1 low baller. I had so many that I was trying to sell to the 1st 1 but not sure I did. She showed up right on time with cash as requested. Wrong size ball on Explorer, no trailer light hookup, no plate, registration and tires 10 years old, did not hook up safety safety chains, and left with electrical cord not secured in hatch. She was driving from Fate to New Boston. When I mentioned that coupler was 2" and she had a 1-7/8" ball she said "NP I do it often". Transaction took 5 minutes. [Linked Image]

I have always had good luck on FB buying stuff.

Selling stuff I give it to my wife and let her post it and deal with people, I think she is pretty firm on price but she also prices things to sell.

This is typically how it goes for me. You just have to wade through the nonsense.

I get the half priced offers all the time that they pay cash or they can pick it up today. I always reply with what did the ad say and you can pick it up anytime by paying what I'm asking.

A lot of police stations have safe lots to do these deals. I never have someone come to my house, ever.

I’ve sold several things successfully on Craigslist. But lately no luck.

I’ve had mixed experiences with FB marketplace.
My most recent experience was attempting to buy a set of tires and wheels for my Polaris Ranger. The tires were advertised by the seller and his wife in two separate posts.
We settled on a cash price, meet up time and place which was a 50+ mile drive from my home. I asked him to let me know if anything changes since it was more than an hour drive for me Before leaving i called the seller to make sure everything was a good. No one answered so I left a voicemail message. I then called the sellers wife who acknowledged that her husband was meeting me for the sale. 30 miles into the drive i got a call from the seller who told me that the tires were no longer for sale. He claimed that after my call, his wife told him that his daughter needed to tires for her Ranger.
Needless to say I was pissed. I told him that it was odd since both he and his wife were selling the tires in separate posts. I also told him that I spoke to his wife before I left home and she acknowledged that he was selling me the tires. He sheepishly stuck to the story of his daughter needing the tires. My guess is that someone offered him more than the listed price.

I have 2 things currently listed there. What a beat down! Even after I specifically say I will not respond to the generic “is this still available,” I get 20 of those a day. I’ve gotten as many in Spanish and even one in Chinese! I’ve sold a few things before that went well though.

My experience as a buyer or seller is that roughly 2 of 10 interactions "might" be legitimate.

I've sold and bought a lot of stuff on Marketplace, Craig's too. Ebay, Etsy, Offer Up and of course Amazon.

you gotta know how to weed through the mopes, but then again, I was in sales my whole adult life.

never used facebook , my daughter is does all the time ( she does digital marketing , so knows the computer stuff well ) . She is going to list my 2001 Tundra on Tuesday . She said she would vet the people replying before a meet up . AAA advises to meet at a public place , do the transaction at your bank and get a bill of sale notarized . Cash transaction .
It's been 20 years since I sold a used car
