This is on the parents fo sho. Hard work creates character. Requiring your younguns to work hard creates that character and shows them the importance of being a responsible human.

Makes me think of this quote: "Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times".

Good for you Coach for helping but I woulda had to say something about the lazy azzed yutes.

As for mowing, I figured most guys my age and younger do it to get away from their wives/kids for an hour or two each week...and never bothered to teach their kids how to mow.

I go fishing to get away from my wife and kids. A lot

You dont fish enough! roflmao My Ex said I would fish my life away. cheers

As soon as my girls turned 15yo; I had them pulling weeds while I mowed the yard.

I always mowed the yard... It was my way of decompressing... But when it came to mulching, trimming I put the boy to work... The kids rotated between doing the dishes and sweeping the floors... Just like I did as a kid... It's really not that hard, give them a job/ chore and make them do it... Dan

I was hoe when I was 13... in the cotton fields with my migrant classmates... a buck an hour..picked cotton for a few days one season, before making the big bucks hauling hay.

Both of my daughters mowed. Didn’t make them use the weed eater though.

Soft parents will ruin this country.

Both my daughter and son learned to mow early in life. My daughter had a hard time pull starting the mower. I pay them $20 to mow, edge & weedeat our small yard. I remind them they could make $30 or more mowing other yards in the neighborhood but I am cheap and they will never get rich working for me. I had to mow my own yard today because my son is working at Lowe’s today.

It's the parents!

When I growing up I mowed the lawn (we did not have to weed eat up north) and in the winter shoveled (a lot) snow. I remember asking my Dad why I needed to shovel snow and he said "that's why we had boys" and I feed you then he would hand me the shovel and open the door.

when I turned 16 , I got a busboy job . $2.25 an hour . Made the mistake of showing my dad my second paycheck ---I had asked him about the money they took out --- he said taxes . I said WTF ?
The next week , he sat me down and advised me that I had to now pay rent , food and utilities to live in his house . Talk about friggin mad ( i was still in high school ) .
This was on top of all my chores that I didn't get paid for . Life's lessons are hard ---but they made me a productive man
