Tammy hasn't been able to catch a fish on topwater yet and was able to do it today. She caught her first top water fish...but that first fish broke off on her hookset...(as it has happened to many of us)...luckily she did catch another nice one on that frog from #hagsbaits

Bad spot in line, but unless its a frog, no big hooksets on topwater baits. Also, no fluro on topwater baits here either.

The standard is to use mono or braid for top waters. Flouro sinks and destroys the action of top waters. Maybe try that?

If you get a backlash with flouro the kink in the line can easily become a weak spot at the kink or in the line caught in the kink. But hey, no line is ideal so congrats on the topwater catch!

Probably a bad spot in the line like others said use mono or braid for any topwater baits. Also make sure your drag is not cranked all the way down but this just looked like a bad spot in the line.

I only use braid on frogs. Fluoro sinks and will hurt the action on top water baits

Nothing less than 50# braid on frogs.

The way the line broke on her hookset, it was def a bad spot in the line.

Jacob Wheeler uses fluoro for his buzzbait all the time if he isn't fishing a ton of grass. Baits always on the move such as buzzbaits, buzz toads/frogs, whopper ploppers/choppos can be fished on fluoro very effectively.

I can’t think of a single benefit to using fluro for a surface bait.

I wouldn't use fluoro on all topwater baits, but it works just fine for certain baits and I wouldn't 2nd guess Jacob Wheeler. He's won a lot of money fishing a buzzbait with fluoro.

Hey if I didn’t have a top water tied on, I’d throw it on fluro in a pinch but it wouldn’t be my first choice. I’d love to why it would be a good idea.
