I am guessing that me nor my family will ever have to eat "gov cheese, PB or milk".

You on the tax money free food program?

For sure, if you're worried about sugar, don't eat it. If you need the govt. to tell you what to eat, you've lost the ability to think for yourself.

Stop giving handouts and folks will relearn how to fend for themselves…just like when their unemployment runs out and they magically get a job!

Sugar itself is not inherently bad, the problem is our food industry has used it and mostly high fructose corn syrup to keep us addicted to ultra processed food.

I got off sugar 100% in January 2024 . No fast carbs ( cooked potatoes , rice , pasta ) at all unless I am forced to eat out with family . The first 30-40 days was a little difficult ---- every time I had a craving , I just drank extra water .
The results are insane --- not about just losing some weight ( lost 20lbs in 35 days ) ---but my overall inflammation is gone . No joint pain , no back pain , no headaches , sleep really good . Exercise seems much easier . My immune system seems to function way better .
I also don't consume any pre-processed foods . Just organic meats , veggies and fruits
In the 1900's , the average American consumed approx 1.5lbs of sugar per year , today it's over 150lbs per year .
High Fructose corn syrup is even worse than sugar

Good point TB.

I think a more accurate statement would be highly refined sugar is very unhealthy.

partially true --- HFC's and processed foods are poison for sure . But sugar can be really bad . When people eat sugar and fast carbs ( rice , pasta , cooked potatoes , cooked carrots , chips etc... ) --- they tend to dump huge amounts of glucose into the body . The liver gets over loaded and can not process the excess --- so it dumps it back into the body , which eventually finds it's way into the blood stream . This damages the blood itself and creates inflammation . Blood cells live approx 120 days . When you have damaged blood cells running through your body --- all types of bad stuff can happen . Strokes , heart attacks are just two examples .
Also , sugar effects your PH levels , making it more acidic --- this can drive cancers
Let's face it ---food is super addictive and moist of it is toxic

Sugar is in almost everything. Starches are sugars. Many natural foods are loaded with it.

I cut all sodas a few years back. Still have the occasional dessert, or a few cookies. I drink half sweet/half unsweet tea when I go out. It's tough to cut 100% of the sugar from your diet, but you can cut it way down. Trying to get back in the routine of riding my mountain bike. I used to ride around White Rock Lake 6-7 days a week. Sometimes twice around on the outside trail.

At home, I pretty much only drink water, coffee, and Earl Grey tea. I do like a Gatorade on the boat.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Yep. Don’t know why everybody is crying about it.
