If any of you guys have the opportunity to make that trip, jump on it. I'm not going to name the lake on here but it's incredibly easy to figure out if you search Montana Smallmouth on Youtube. There were two videos that came out last year that convinced me and a buddy to make a trip up there last week. 1523 one way miles later and we whacked on quality/big smallies every single day. Big fish of the trip was a 6.0, but we caught so many 4s and 5s it was ridiculous. Saw an absolute giant that dwarfed all of the 5s we caught when it followed a 3#er to the edge of the boat trying to get the bait out of it's mouth. Our final day out there we had 26-15 on our best five with the biggest fish being 5-14 and our smallest was a pair of 4-14s. We caught 5-6 dozen smallmouth that day by our best estimation. We culled multiple 20# bags every single day. The bonus was we kept 2-3 walleye every day for dinner and one 28" walleye that was released. The con is we caught at least a dozen Pike every day that would force you to retie, but the biggest 42" Pike was pretty cool. The drive sucked both ways, but I've already booked another stay for the last week in September. cheers

Sounds like a great fishing trip. I need to plan some trips for the summer. I know I’m going to have to go to S Dakota in July…so may have to hit Oahe.

I’ve never been great at posting pics on TFF but I’ll try a couple.

If you want to see some smallmouth footage from Montana check out the Big Bass Dreams Youtube Series called White Road Adventures - Episodes 3 through 6.

Fitting it started with a dang Pike bite. That video was from 8 years ago though.

Damn nice fat smallies!
I've been thinking of a trip there for awhile, so maybe this fall is the year I bite the bullet and go for it.
Thanks for posting.

Figured it was pretty harmless here. It's a legit 1300-1500 miles from most folks on this site and if you can rough that- and being in the middle of nowhere for a few days- you deserve the reward. I'm not posting it on BBC.

Thanks guys for the positive comments. It was Falcon Lake 2010-2014 vibes for me. Different species, but just as much fun.
