Pete was a great player who will be remembered for his hardnose play and hustle. He was one of my favs in my top 10 and will always be but he broke Rule 21.
MLB Rule 21: This rule prohibits any player, umpire, or team official from betting on any baseball game in which they have a duty to perform. This led to his permanent banishment from the league in 1989. Not a lifetime ban!

The way Pete and his family was treated is No modern day player has even come close to his hit record. Derek Jeter and Albert Pujols would have had to play 5 more seasons with 180 or more hits all 5 seasons.
