I mean at $5/lb for brisket, im already out... That's (by my crummy math)...20 pound brisket, 8oz per serving. $2.50 not including charcoal and or wood cost, sauce, power for the freezer, and the storage bags. Round it to ~$2.90 to be safe.

Updated Information. Bustillos said that will cost northern Mexico cattle ranchers a fortune. He said 100,000 head of cattle were scheduled to be exported from Chihuahua to the U.S. this month, while Durango just to the south has between 50,000 and 60,000 bovines waiting in the wings. Tamaulipas and Coahuila also will be affected with about 50,000 head each, he said. https://www.borderreport.com/news/health/us-cattle-ban-to-last-15-days-president-of-mexico-says/

As I drive around this part of the state I ponder how many head have been taken off inventory for the family farm that’s now an apartment complex or some 5000 square foot house in the middle of ten acres.

Yeah, except from a 20lb brisket, it probably yields 10 lbs or less, so youll have to double that.

They should. Feed, all equipment - tractors, bailers, fencing and fertilizer, medicines, even bailing twine have been through the roof for several years. Time to catch up

Interesting fact. The screw worm is originally native to the US and central America but eventually spread south to South America. In the 1950's scientist genetically modified screwworms so the males would be sterile. They began an eradication campaign and wiped them out in the US and Mexico. They are still prevalent in South America though. Since then, the US has been dropping millions of sterile male fly larva over Panama. This has effectively blocked norther migration since the 1990's. Although, apparently they've now managed to make it back into Mexico.

But, if you go buy a boat, head to the lake, and catch a mess full of fish, that fish cost you a lot more than it would have if you had just gone to the store and bought some.

Well with all of the newcomers coming across the border, we now have Chickenpox back (eliminated in the US in 2015), a tuberculosis outbreak 2023 and now screw worms headed this way. Biden's gift just keeps on giving.
