Try finding beef cuts in any brand of cat food.. don’t know when it actually disappeared but something changed over the last few years.

I don't really track beef markets, I only notice the price at the grocery store, but it seems like beef spiked at the onset of the pandemic and never came back down. Back in 2019, I bought beef steaks twice a week when they were only $8. I like tuna steaks just as well, and it's cheaper now. I even eat lobster more often than beef ribeye now. When beef cost as much (or more) as sea food, I'm going to choose sea food most of the time.

I bought some fajita marinade a few weeks ago that I wanted to try on beef. I haven't bought skirt steak in a long time. Skirt steak is probably the worst cut but you wouldn't know it by the price. Same goes for chuck roast. I grew up eating that [censored]. I saw some on sale and thought about using it in venison grind. I just bought the cheapest ground beef.

I buy the ground beef log. Sliced into 8oz patties. I can get around ten patties. That's ten meals. Eating beef twice a week in protein rotation. Treating the better cuts of beef as a treat. Like having a t-bone on a special occasion.

I couldn't tell you what the beef log cost. I just put it in the cart. Along with a hundred count freezer bags.

My ex neighbor in Texas loves CFS except the S is sliced pork loin. Mothers Day was the first time we had eaten beef (excluding hamburger) since New Years Day. I can make plenty of meals with pork and chicken. I just wish The Boss liked fried catfish. I could fill a freezer with fillets with all the ones I catch and release.

I am thinking even more seriously about getting a couple of feeder calves.

The cost of starter milk and then feed. That's why those calves show up at auction. Too expensive to grow and it'll lag behind.

If you buy a feeder calf. Butcher it when you get it home.
