My granddad had this old tank dug in the early 70's. I remember as kid walking to the bottom of it right after it was dug. The dozer was still there. In 1975 we moved from Mesquite to the country. The tank was down behind our house. Grandad gave my parents 3 acres to build a house. I grew up fishing that ol tank every chance I could. There were others on the 300 plus acres granddad owned, but this was always my favorite. I knew, and still know where to catch em, and what to catch them on. When I got older and started a family of my own, whenever we'd visit MiMi and Pops my boys always would end up down at the tank too. If we didn't bring our own stuff, they'd raid Pop's supply and go cast a line. Now they're grown and have their own brood to bring around. Amazingly, with a bunch of girls in the family now, they all love to fish. Out of 7 grandgirls and 2 grandsons all but 1 has fished this ol tank.... and that's because Lil Haddie is only 4 months old. But, she was down there with all of us yesterday. Pops been gone almost 4 years now. MiMi is in her 80's. She is talking about selling the old homeplace and getting something smaller, that she can maintain. Me and my oldest brother help out as much as we can, but her generation can be tough to help. (she's a bit stubborn) I would really love to see a few more generations get to fish this ol tank. I guess I'm at the age of bountiful blessings and a sack full of sorrow. Enjoy each moment, count your blessings, and cherish the memories.

Great story there, you’re fortunate to have that available to your family.

Family is everything!

Life is precious. We don’t have forever. We have now. This moment. We can choose to love our lives now.

That is a wonderful story. Maybe you could buy the acreage around the tank and keep it in the family name. I'm getting long in the tooth myself and think about things like this as well. Best wishes for ya.

What a cool post and wonderful picture-

Your grandad did what I hoped to do as far as making similar memories-

We had this one dug out 5 years ago at the back of my 20 acres and now every fish in the pond is the result of being caught elsewhere or from a fish farm but pretty much from my stocking or descendants from the initial stocking-
Moved a 24x16 storage shed beside it and some have used it as a cabin-

Your grandpa would be incredibly proud of those gathering-

Dang, I wish I had the land to do this. It's always been a dream of mine to have my own pond. I have an acre parcel I've been eyeing to see if I could make it a pond. AHAHAHAHHA
