We, The Boss and I, are retired from fishing. It's a sad experience. We are both nearing 80 years old and bass fishing and handling a bass boat is just beyond our physical capability any more. In 1970, we fell in love fishing from a 10' aluminum flat bottom boat on the bayous of Louisiana. Her Dad had been a commercial fisherman from rivers of east Louisiana... she had paddled his boat while he ran nets and trot lines. She started out as my first trolling motor, which didn't last long. The first bass she caught was a 5 1/2 pounder and she never looked back after that....no more boat paddling. Through a life time of fishing, two kids, working, we made it. We semi retired from work in 2000 and officially in 2006... We bought a new bass boat for our retirement gift to ourselves.... We caught thousands of bass from that boat. We published fishing reports from our web site, Whitney Lake Online for a number of years.... but it got so bad with people following us around that we had to give that up, but we continued to post photos on Facebook for years. The Boss seemed to dominate no mater what.. she had the BIG Bass Title for many, many years.

At any rate, we have been trying to sell our boat for a year now with no luck... easier to catch fish than sell a boat I guess.

Here are some memories from our fishing days... random order... From Black Bayou in Louisiana, to Lake Travis, to Lake Whitney and Aquilla.. so many thousands of bass... fishing for food and fun. You have never had a real fish meal unless it was fried up by a genuine Louisiana woman. And it was such a privilege to share so much of God's gifts with my bride of 55 years.

God Bless you and your wife Sir! Hopefully you will still be able fish but at a little slower pace. No matter what you decide, you have plenty of "LIFE TIME MEMORIES"! thumb

I love the story. Perhaps keep the boat in a slip and consider guiding. Based on your story and pic's, let her become the guide. smile Be patient on sale of the boat because who wants to spend $100K on something with no return profit when sold used. Times have change and people or realizing to buy used vice new.

The Boss now has a band and ministry singing at assisted living and nursing homes. In addition to fishing, she took up guitar picking and singing at age 68. She never quits. I’m the roadie. I carry her guitar…. for short distances.

It was a good run. Find a good guide to get y'all out from time to time and it will make it a lot easier to go fishing.

This made my year! Thank you so much for sharing the amazing memories. Many a blessing to you and your bride, sir! You kids aren't done yet though. We all can feel it.

You're bride reminds me of a curly haired, blued eyed blonde that I once loved. Love that you've had your best friend to fish with for 55 yrs.
