Booking with Ryan Wags Fishing, this time on Lake Fayette (last time was at Lake Bastrop.) Any experience(s) with the lake?

You can have days with big numbers of solid fish. They group up at times as good as about anywhere. Offshore bite could be outstanding. When they decide to eat it can be really good. 3 guys can catch over 100 decent fish in a day.

And then there are days when you wonder if you went to the wrong lake.

Use to trips on Fayette 5 plus years ago. Could guarantee we would boat 40 fish a day. Missed it one time. Came close to missing it on a few trips. But a later bite saved the day. Had more 100 fish days on this lake by myself than any other.

If he’s good with electronics, you will have fun. May and June are the 2 best months on that lake. If you find yourself beating the bank, you need to find another guide.

RIP to Fayette - it was fun while it lasted.

It has been hot since 1978. Most still beat the bank and never have those 100 fish days.

Was on Fayette last weekend with Ryan and about 150+ of our closest friends. There were two tournaments going on, in addition to the normal traffic, both lots were full. Fish were skittish after getting hammered with all the traffic and mexican cast netters everywhere. We got on a couple of different patterns.
Bass were still in all three phases of spawn. We had a decent Carolina rig bite in 12-15' on post spawn fish and got on a good spawn and pre spawn flipping bite in the reeds. The deeper fish wanted finesse baits, had good luck with centipedes and finesse worms. Caught the flippin fish on a Texas rig frog, also had a few on a light Carolina rig with a fluke up shallow. Kept a few unders for the grease and they were still full of eggs.
Ryan is a hammer on Dunlap, if you can go during the week I would suggest considering it as well. Weekends get a little crazy after 10am. Dunlap is starting to come on strong since the dam repair and is kicking out some good fish right now.

?? always been this way. been fun since it opened. Guess you must not get out on the lake much to see the crowds that have been coming to the lake for 20+ years.

The cast netters are doing more damage to fishing than anything else. But they have been operating this way for 15 years.

So i ask does fishing currently suck on Fayette?

Fayette was tough with the gusting north winds this past weekend but I did manage a good number of the 2-3 pound regulars and a 5 pound kicker from deeper water. Lost a 6+ off a creek ledge on a bling fluke.

yeah, that's what they say, however they keep everything they catch and unfortunately TPWD doesn't patrol the lake appropriately.
As far as guides, I guided that lake for many years, back when Rick Denton (still one of the best guides on the lake), Mike Hastings and Rick Rule were the prominent guides. I seriously wish someone would "accidentally" introduce a bunch of hydrilla back into the lake. That was a large part of the reason the numbers are down. Rick Denton is still having 40 fish days with bigger fish in the 8lb range. The lake has never been known for seriously large bass but has always been good for numbers of 2-6lb fish. When I'm not off shore fishing and can get there, I still do great on a carolina rigged centipede or lizard in pumpkinseed or a chartreuse / blue back crankbait that will run 12-14ft. (the cranking is best against the dam now since there's so much of the black witches hair moss)

Well the GW's there this past weekend would beg to differ with you. I saw them escorting a tilapia boat in with one of the GW's riding in with them.
