Looking at your lower unit, that ain’t the first time you’ve run skinny.

Suzuki 4 stroke for the win.
Best motor I ever owned. Johnson 150 Fast Strike. We did noting to it. Ran $6.96 Walmart oil. Never an issue.
Worst Mercury 200 Optimax. A number of issues. Compressor pump and Fuel pump…..twice. Lower unit. A couple of coils. A few other things. It either ran or didnt

Love my Merc four stroke. Starts easy, no smoke, runs quiet. Very dependable.

I just can't stand the smell of a 2-stroke anymore after having a 4. Spend a few years in the Gulf of America backing down on a 2-stroke and you'll switch to.

4 stroke for me. They are quiet, use less gas, use less oil, and have a good track record if you maintain like a vehicle.

I quit tournament fishing a few years back, so haven’t bought a new boat in years. My 2014 921 still has a strong running 250 Pro XS on the back. I’ve kicked around the idea of re powering to a 4 stroke but lots of 2 stroke Mercs running on every lake ya go to.
I’d like to have a quiet running 4 stroke but if it’s not broke I guess don’t fix it. I’ll keep running my old 2 stroke for a while.
Thanks, Billy

I have a 98 Evinrude 150 on the back of my Triton TR-18 and it still runs good. I keep waiting for the shoe to drop and I will re-power. Weight will be a consideration, depends on wheter a 150 Merc 4 stroke weighs more than a 150 Merc 2 stroke.

Some boats were built before the 4 strokes existed. The extra bazillion pounds makes a difference, and when you're back in ten inches of water and you gotta go NOW that really makes a difference.
I've done everything short of a nitrous bottle to give this pig a shot at getting me out of stupid places I find myself, and it will never have the snap to get moving as quick as a proper two stroke. Poling two hundred yards until you can find another two inches deeper water to get out in is really low on the fun scale.
