You can tell when insulin starts to get out of date….the leg cramps are pretty severe when you use insulin that has been at room temp for a few months.

Seems I get a different quality of dope every time. And a different level of accuracy from my freestyle every two weeks. It’s a roller coaster of a ride. This weeks freestyle will just say “HI”….then I can take 5 units of insulin (normal for me is 20)…an hour later it’s 41 and I’m close to passing out with the cold sweats. Pounding down M&M’s till I feel like puking, trying to get my glucose back to 100. (Mostly normal ish). The libre meter show a graph. Looks like a sword fight game. One part of the graph is climbing so fast it’s a straight line going almost below the scale to above the scale….take a shot and it is the opposite on the other side of the graph. Looks like to swords.

I’m about ready to just say F-it.

Just so yall know. I’m type one. Have been playing this game since 1975. The pens are a little better than the regular old school bottles and needles.

I'm type 2 and trying to avoid insulin for this very reason. I don't want to have to worry about low blood sugar while I'm out fishing all night, working in the yard, and so forth. When I was growing up I saw my dad get goofy and have to have orange juice or a Coke many times. Those were the bottle and syringe days. Before disposable syringes were available he had a glass syringe with removable needle that he had to boil to sterilize it.

I'm on pills and Trulicity. My A1C isn't as low as my doctor wants, and high sugar might eventually kill someone, but low sugar will kill you right now. I'm 22 years in and making it so far. Skinny as a rail, but actually doing pretty well.

Our fridge will stay below 40 degrees for probably 8-10 hours. The freezer is usually set at 0° and will get to near freezing in 6-8 hours. I have a portable generator I'll crank up and attach to it long enough to get back to 0° and 37° on the fridge. That buys us another several hours.

Do you wear the glucose monitor thingy on your arm? I'm seeing more clients with that. It's an interesting technology. I had a client Friday whose blood sugar dipped to the mid-60's while on the table and their phone app went nuts. They said they don't worry until it's in the 50's. I keep orange juice and candies on hand for just such issues for them, but DANG. I'm sorry you have to go through this.

Sugary drinks are a last resort. You can go from 50 to 300 very fast. A mildly carby snack works better. Our sons gets in the 50s at night quite a bit. He doesnt act like it phases him. The cGM is a godsend.

I get cold sweats and really dizzy if I go below about 80.

Breakfast of champions. Walnut fudge brownies, some donut holes, orange juice and coffee. Black. With sweet n low. Can’t have too much sugars. lol.

Where’s my pen. Might need a defibrillator too.

my son has been in the 40's and didn't act at all like it was a problem, but then, we don't really know. they gave us an emergency inhaler if he ever passes out. Hope that never comes.

yep. power came back on about 9:30. by that time we were holed up in a local hotel. all good now.

Amazon has an Ecoflow 1k watt solar gen for $599 right now. Plug in and go. I just ordered one as I was at the lease this weekend and the home power went out twice. Wife was alone and has 3 big aquariums and her insulin fridge. I have a big gas gen but no way the wife could start that thing. Something to think about.
